I saw the auction on gunbroker just ended, wondering any member here won it? It looks like a very nice non-refurbished 1954 Izhevsk, I am a bit surprised about the final price.

I watched this one too, are you surprised it went high or do you think it went low?
I think if the seller would have put the word russian in the title more people would have found it and it could have went higher!

It went right where the market dictated.  Gone are the days of $1000 pristine Izhevsks regardless of whether they are 53's or 54's.  When light refurbs routinely push $800 and there's only one or two Izhevsks on gunbroker in any given month, nice examples like this one will be snapped up pretty quickly by very hungry buyers looking to fill the hole in their collection or to upgrade from a refurb they already have.

Completely agree! I was a bit surprised it didn't go higher. If the seller put some fancy words like 'Russian Nonrefrubished unissued nonfired', that could be a different story then

Two guys that wanted it pretty bad but one of them has to blink.  I wouldn't call it a bargain but it's also not crazy, about right these days it seems. Nice looking Izhevsk!

See what the word russian in the title will do, refurb izhevsk goes for same price as no-refurb...

But it has a blemish above the acceptance stamps and a scar on the fore end. What gives?

Hey Tony, how much weight do you think '53 vs '54 has to do with the comparison?  Notwithstanding the "Russian" in the title (I agree with you that the lazy GB bidders possibly never even saw the '54 in the OP), is a '53 light refurb really worth the same to a collector as a '54 as-issued??!  pullhair1

I decided to quit guessing what the prices will go to on these auctions, but to answer the question, personally I think a light refurb 53 is worth more than a 54....but not as much as a as-issued, but a 53 as-issued is the holy grail in the izhevsk world so that by far should take the cake.

I was curious about this one too, only because it's a '53 Izhevsk ?

Laugh, I feel like that after *every* single GB report!  Sometimes it just seems like there's no rhyme or reason to some of the #%*,£¥$@ prices.  The market will do whatever the market wants to do!  :P
