This is a test post to see if data like this, in a format like this is going to be useful to the boards.  Basically what I'm trying to do is to document examples of individual arsenal in one easy to find place.

Today we are going to look at /156\ guns.  The first gun I have in my records is a 15th year of production gun.

15th Year of Production (1970):
  • Barrel Lug: Short
  • Battle Sight on RSL: 3
  • Bayonet Type: Spike
  • Bayonet Lug: Late Non-Cutout
  • Bolt Carrier: Late Non-Cutout
  • Gas Tube: Early 1 Piece
  • Gas Block: Early Milled
  • Receiver Cover Takedown: Regular Lever
  • Rear Sight Block: Early
  • Serial Number Format: 1,5XX,XXX
  • S/N Components: Large Font Stock, 5 digit S/N, leading zeros
  • Stock Swivel: Bottom
  • Trigger Group Type: Late Stamped

16th Year of Production (1971):
  • Barrel Lug: Short
  • Battle Sight on RSL: 3
  • Bayonet Type: Spike
  • Bayonet Lug: Uncertain
  • Bolt Carrier: Late Non-Cutout
  • Gas Tube: Early 1 Piece
  • Gas Block: Uncertain
  • Receiver Cover Takedown: Regular Lever
  • Rear Sight Block: Late
  • Serial Number Format: 1,6XX,XXX
  • S/N Components: Large Font Stock, stock star prefix, 5 digit S/N, leading zeros
  • Stock Swivel: Bottom
  • Trigger Group Type: Late Stamped

And Year 17, Year 18, Year 24 so on and so on.

Is this useful?

We do this for all of them and we will need a new board added.  Lol

I likey.  thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Me likey too running-man.....looks workable! Are you going to be able to put every gun up like this?!

Justin Hell

I likey three!

It might make it more compact and easier to format with thumbnail pics that either pop up or open in a new tab.  The information would be easier to read and compare, and the reader could click on anything them might like to get a closer look at.  I don't know if that is possible, just a suggestion as I suspect some factories will have so many variances the posts could get quite long.

Another suggestion is when changes are noted from year to year, change the color of the text to indicate that it is a new variation (perhaps butthurt red)....that could even simplify the way you have it now. :)

Keep it up....I can't wait for the DB/DP thread!

Yup good ideas. I thought about the thumbnails too. I might just post a link to a slideshow or something so it doesn't take away from the info listings. The other option we have is to make it an excel spreadsheet served from google apps that everyone can view.

We can make it work.  Is there anything I've missed that would be useful?

Heres what I think...

Create a new board under the serial data board thats accessible by all. List each arsenal in order and add the related info like above. Link each one to the guide for pictures under 'non 26 rifles' in the navigation bar.  done
