It's been a bit quiet lately so I just wanted to post up some interesting tidbits I found on the web concerning demilled guns in Russia.  From what I've been able to gather (albeit not much as I don't particularly want to know the total ins and outs of Russian firearms laws...I have enough trouble with American laws thankyouverymuch), it appears that there are some very specific procedures that need to be followed to turn an illegal to own milsurp such as an SKS-45 into a legal wall hanger.  I cry inwardly for these guns, but there's only so much you can do I guess.

So here's an example I found that shows the cut in the chamber (all photos not mine, from various .ru website):

This photo shows that they cut a slot almost all the way down the length of the barrel, the magazine feed lips are gone, the bolt has a slot cut through it, and hammer of the trigger group has been milled right down the middle.  I've also seen instances where they tack weld portions of the trigger group together so it can't be actuated at all:

Of course nothing like this would be official w/o the required paperwork.  The 'Google' typically translated these documents as being called 'passports'.  Having the correct paperwork is essential it seems as non-papered guns are quickly poo-poo'd and discretely taken down on the sites I've seen.  Notice the blue circular stamps on the left page and the diver down rectangle on the right page (looks familiar eh? 1st GRAU / Balakleya).  Some of these stamps are still in use today and are one of the tools that R. Chumak & his team are using to help verify the names, numbers, and location of the old Soviet era refurb shops.

Here's another example with a different style of demil on the barrel; basically make it into swiss cheese:

All the guns are stamped by the demil shop with what looks to be a unique number, an origin, and logo.  This one seems to say "ВПО-913
СДЕЛАНО В РОССИИ" which I translate to be "VPO-913 Made In Russia".  I remember reading that there were at least three major shops that did this demil work and that certain shops are much more desirable than others.  This reminds me quite a bit of people who like discreet CAI stamps over massive CCCP billboarded NHM stamps:

Finally here's an example of a demilled bayonet 'passport'.  From what I've been able to gather, bayonets are pretty tough to demil and they either have to fully anneal them or take out a structural portion of them such that they can't be used as stapping weapons ever again.  Not many demil guns seem to have bayonets:

Anyhow, just thought I'd share some 'gee whiz' stuff as new Russians are few and far between these days it seems.  Typical prices for these are 15 to 20 thousand rubles which is approx $200 to $300.  Pretty pricey for a wall hanger, but if that's all they got....

It hurts my eyes, but thanks for posting.... Very interesting!

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Damned carbine molesters. For those that did this to these carbines, I hope all their kids and grandkids are born naked.

Do they have to be rendered completely unfunctional?

A spot weld on the gas port would do the trick if they can have bolt actions. Pin the mag like the Canadians if needed, but why do they have to be so brutal to these poor things?!?

Difficult to look at without averting the eyes a few times but very interesting  :(

Putin's a good guy, with the people's best interests at heart. There's no reason the serfs...I mean proletariat...I mean citizens of Russia would ever need to defend themselves against an overreach of state/military power by a former KGB colonel, so it's all good   bat1  pullhair1
