I'm convinced the 2 was added later on these. Likely to represent a second go around with it as in "refurbed".

I agree. This is the first one I've been able to find that is so close in S/N to a known non 2 prefixed letter gun. Fonts, placements and configuration are identical minus that telltale 2.
