Here is my story: I was bit by the mosin bug a few years ago and really got into the fun of unboxing the unknown. I did buy a few Finns that I knew what I was getting before it arrived and I found that although the rifle was what I wanted the trill of the unknown was gone. Well I got off mosins and moved to other things. Just recently I was just surfin the web looking at milsurp and I saw CF had B-grade SKS's and I figured what the heck lets see if the trill is still there so I ordered one. I've never owned a sks for some reason. Well It came in and the trill was still there and I feel like I got a pretty nice B-grade letter M carbine minor rust and small crack in stock, bluing around 50% all matching except the stock number was wore off and I couldnt read the piston number. Overall I was happy so I order one more. It rolled in just before lunch and the box was marked C RUST. I knew right then I had my work cut out trying whip it back into shape. Lol. So I opened the box to see how bad it was and I got a letter F carbine this time all matching even stock, I have not checked piston yet. No cracks in stock this time and bluing is 85%. The rust is pretty bad on the sides of the mag and the trigger. I started breaking it down to see how bad it was inside on the trigger group and I can not get it to come out. I can get the release button to move but trigger group will not budge. Any ideas on what I need to do the get it out? I'm ok with the rust a long as the trigger group is not covered in it. I'll try to post some pic's tonight.
Bug got you also eh? :P
It should come out, just may take a bit of help. Be sure you have the safety ON as it will not come out with it off!
May want to soak the action liberally with BP Blaster and smack the top and bittom with a rubber mallot to help loosen things up. I received arguably on of the rustiest rifles from the century match... I feel you pain.
Thanks LC! I'll give that a try. I'm in a little pain, but I still may order one more after the first of year if they still have any left.
Is that what you ordered that was rusty... a C grade? Hope you didn't order a B and they sent a C....

If you ordered--and paid for--a B grade and the labeling says "C rust" indicative of a C grade, then I'd send a pic of the carton label and rusty carbine parts to Classic and ask for a refund of the price difference. They've always been good to me in regard to customer service.
Welcome to the addiction. thumb1 I often enjoy the lottery aspect of ordering from the retailers and have had more wins than losses in that regard.
BTW, we enjoy pics ;)
The first one I received had a C on the box also, but had little rust and small crack. They mention rust and crack stocks, but the rifle should be a working rifle which is still unknown at this point. I think they are getting down to the last of them. As long as the trigger group is not toast and it shoots I can live with some rust. I'll post some pics later tonight.
But..... your ordered B grade rifles?

I may try that if it's bad on the inside. Thanks!
I would flat out make them take it back and demand what I payed for..... a B.
But I'm jerky like that.... gimme what I payed for!!!
Yes I ordered B grade rifles. I don't think classic is offering a C grade yet, but I guess these could have been marked C's at some point and that is what they have left. I would like to know if anyone else has got one from them that the box was marked B or C
There are varying degrees of rust, what you describe doesn't really sound horrid, so there is hope!!!
I suspect that you either have a missing spring between the stock & TG or if its there, the rust build up on the trigger group is simply binding and not allowing it to come out. I'd get a helper to depress the release latch with a rod or screw driver or whatever you usually use. At the same time, grab the trigger guard and pull up and it will come free. As my dad used to say "It wasn't born there!"
And because I like to traumatize LC with photos of mr rusty: rofl2

Seriously though, if you are unhappy with the purchase, contact classic and they will take care of you. Their rep is pretty good and even the one instance where they weren't going to help was chalked up to the usual CS guy being out of the office and it was corrected immediately upon his return. thumb1
Oh nooo... the worst of it was looking into the receiver. bat1
It cleaned up nice though... had to take the cover down to the white and reblue/black oxide

This guy might have had it worse though...heaviest pitting I've ever seen on an IO (Sorry for hijacking your thread Marshall...but believe me, it could be worse!):

:o I dont think its that bad. Im fixin to try to get it opened up. I'll try posting some pic's in a bit.
Ok this the B-grade I received Monday. Pretty much all matching. The stock sn# is rubbed off and I cant read piston. So here are a few pic's. I'll post some outside photos once I get it put back together.(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo46.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo46.jpg.html) (http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo45.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo45.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo44.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo44.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo43.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo43.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo47.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo47.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo50.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo50.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo53.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo53.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo42.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo42.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo69.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo69.jpg.html)(http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007/photo70.jpg) (http://s1068.photobucket.com/user/coondawg007/media/photo70.jpg.html)
My 7 mil has that same 'rubbed out' s/n on the stock. Strange.
Here is the B-grade I got today. It is all matching even the piston. The rust is not as bad as I feared and bluing is good and no cracks in the stock. Notice the method of removing the trigger 8). And also notice the safety cut-outs in the stocks. I BELIEVE it will clean up with a little elbow grease. HERE ARE THE PIC'S. That aint all that bad huh.... good scores for the price eh?
I also got the cleaning rods with both. Not bad for the price at all.

Thats good.. Adam didn't get a cleaning rod with his. rofl
Wait a min... Adam didn't get one with mine! Argh. pullhair1
Am I the only one who has noticed the prices on cleaning rods skyrocket over the last coupla years? I cleaned out a LGS and scored a bunch of new NC Star rods for less than $3 apiece last year...I am now short one and cannot bring myself to pay the asking price for what folks want these days. Stupid supply and demand.
Nice thing is...it is the one product for the SKS that NC Star didn't screw up.

I think you'll be pleased with how that #2 carbine cleans up Marshall. thumb1
So the expanded safety relief on the stock appears to be consistent with the large 1/4" x 1/4" fonts first seen in the letter series guns. We found that some letter blocks of the letter series guns have the smaller 1/10" wide by 1/5" tall font (G, I, J, K, & M come to mind) while others were large and the safety reliefs correspond accordingly. It's a very good observation though! Shows you're noticing sone of the subtle differences.
I was wondering about that safety relief...looks very Yugo, but those are the only examples I have with the narrower cut.
The best part about the SKS, they always keep you scratchin yer head.
The stock finger groove changed to the long-cut sometime in the letter series of 1959/60. Seeing that we dont know the order in which the letters were produced, its going to be hard to determine the letter in which the transition was made. More then likely we may see a random transition with two or more letters having both variations. Definitly something to keep an eye out for.
This cut so seems to coincid with the wide font transition. The current observed letters containing the wide-font are B, C, D, E, F, H, R and W.
Notice how one of Marshalls rifle is an F and the other is an M...... willing to bet the M has the narrow groove stock. thumb1
LC you are correct, the M stock finger grooves are narrower than the F stock. Also is appears the F has a little bit more pistol grip and the M is more scant.
BTW ....
Your rifles by our research and evidence indicates the letter guns were produced in 1959/60 ;)
