Were there any original lamidated stocks on imported SKS 56 rifles? This looks like a Russian stock on this SKS, but I can not find any evidence of serial number and/or refurbish mark, or any evidence that any markings have been removed.

Yes. Take a look at this pinned post on the Israeli-Capture Type 56s imported by Century Arms. Your 1967 Type 56 is in the right serial range if it's CAI marked. If so, it looks like a previous owner polished the bolt carrier and refinished the stock. Do you have a picture of the bottom of the stock foreend (magazine to bayonet groove area)?

I agree with P32. It certainly looks like an IC gun.

The fact it has a spike bayo and it is a Russian blade bayo laminated stock is the unusual combo that mark many IC's. If the spike bayo groove was milled over top of the blade groove without completely obliterating it, that would be a good data point helping to confirm.

The stock has most certainly been refinished stateside and polished bolt carriers are not a feature you'd expect on a Type 56 SKS so as P32 states I suspect that was polished by bubba as well. It was likely blued if it was an IC gun.

Yes, it was imported by CAI, and here are the requested pictures. It looks as if the forearm was first mortised for a blade bayonet and then mortised for the spike bayonet. Why, and where was this done?

Presumably the Chinese did it before export to the PLO or other Middle Eastern countries that subsequently supplied the PLO.

Your bayonet inletting is cleaner looking than my IC Type 56.

Thanks. I noticed your bolt is in the white with a laminate stock. Polished or issue?

Thanks to everyone who has shared their knowledge in helping to ID this SKS.  thumb1
