My factory 106 SKS

Greetings everyone I am new here,

Recently I logged my SKS into the system here for history and comparison. I am not new to collecting. I have been a C&R since 2004 and collected ever since.
My Brother John and my dad started my motivation to collect and I really took it to a higher level than they did. In those years I have owned 2 Yugo SKS and a rare but crude Albanian (had a really ill fitting upper handguard and a lot of machine marks all over) as far as SKS are concerned. Sadly several years ago I sold my 2 Yugo's and the Alb to a real jerk of a guy who got them for a steal during hard times, even lost a few other goodies in that sale. Lesson learned. Will never sell anything again, even if money is tight.

I scored a mint Chinese SKS before the recent state unconstitutional ban went into effect. The seller had bought from an estate sale with many other not so common rifles and it looks to have been a safe queen all of its life since importation in my opinion. I assume probably bought late 80s or early 90s. Imported by KSI in Pomona, CA. My brother bought one in the 80's and had described how they came packed in cosmoline back then with accessories. Mine does not have a lightning cut bolt and is threaded and not the barrel is not pinned. It has a milled receiver and an early sight block.  I think the year of manufacture is 1972-73. Its from factory 106. Kind of surprised it has a side sling and some other features for that year as I had read that some of these features are usually on older rifles. Anyway, there is not a scratch on it. I am really thankful for this website as I found out pretty much everything about Chinese versions in detail while I was logging mine into your system here. One thing I found interesting is that some rifles have Chinese characters before the serial number and some like mine do not. Enjoy the pictures and feel free to comment on my rifles history. Welcome aboard, that IS a nice clean SKS. 18M (8 digit SN) or 1.8M (7 digit SN) denotes a 1973 build year. I have an oval (9696) of the same year that is almost as clean, but it is a pinned barrel action as opposed to you threaded short collar action. Are all the numbered parts matching? Also, are there any stampings or Chinese characters on the right side? A 2 character Chinese marking on the right side could/should indicate it being a 'Security Forces' SKS.

Yes everything is matching. Bolt, receiver, stock,triggerguard and floor plate as well. There is some letting stamps on the threaded collar, I think "K" and an "O" but I'd have to strip the rifle again to see that. I did not see any Chinese characters anywhere.

The O might be a 0 for indexing the barrel during build. There should be a matching number on the receiver as well. If it IS an O then that and the K are probably inspection stamps.

That makes sense. The Chinese sure used large letter stamps compared to the Europeans for inspection marks. They are similar in size to the serial number. Thanks guys.
