Got her picked up today. Here are some pictures.

Peens on the bayo screw line up, just having a bit of trouble getting my phone to focus on it. I’ll try again in some better lighting.

Also, the arrow on the top cover looks like it didn’t get a good stamping. I’ve never seen one like that. There is also some goop on the buttplate I need to clean off. It’s that pink stuff. I picked at it a bit. Should come off easily. Gas piston and all the internals are spotless. I hate the “unfired” term, but it sure looks like it hasn’t been.

Looks like a nice clean gun! thumb1

Are you happy with what you received vs. how it was presented in the auction?  Based on the final sale price of the auction, I think you did darn well.

Hotrod

I’m happy. It should clean up well. Need to maybe get some photos in the sunlight.

I guess it's alright if you like a nice all matching rifle like this.  rofl  J/K looks great. What did you get it for (if you don't mind me asking)? I feel like I missed the price somewhere along the way, perhaps?

Hotrod

More than I wanted to pay of course! Auction ended at $759. Plus a bit of shipping. Ffl buddy hooked me up. Had to be in Tx same as me so I had to pay tax. $870 to my house all said and done.

Looks like a beauty!  8) Very good price these days. I’d say that’d normally be a 1K SKS-45 with good pictures and description.

Any thoughts on the arrow on the top cover?

Not an issue.

There was a lot of variation in the arrows on the covers over the 10 years of Soviet production. Even to the extent of variance within the same production year-- IIRC.

IMHO, this image of the piston head speaks volumes... not a hint of fouling or pitting.

Also, it sure looks like there is some lacquer over spray on the side of the buttplate with the remnants of black paint beneath, no?

A confluence of traits exhibited by this carbine make a very convincing argument that it went directly into long term storage very soon after leaving the production line.

Stolen, by today's prices. Awesome find for the money in my opinion.  thumb1

I see that they even used the two piece construction on the wood stock heels as well as the laminated.  Interesting to see how material conservation is used in industry.   Super nice rifle!! thumb1

Arctic birch trees are very narrow trunked.

The stock heels on Soviet SKS45's are a lot more common than you might suspect. The Soviets  often did a  masterful job of near seamless joinery.

I had some stocks for years before I realized-- after someone else pointed it out to me-- that they had the two piece heel

Yes, I've seen it done on Mosin's quite a bit.  Boris, Like you, I'm impressed with the fitting job on most.

Hotrod

There’s a 54 “non refurb” on broker with a similar heel job lol. I’ll see if I can find it.

BMont

First seeing this one... Nice to come home on a Friday evening and look at some sks porn.  NICE rifle op!

Direct Connection

I remember this one. I think your money ahead after the picture show. The arrow not an issue. That's a small area to be perfect and ill bet non are perfect. I personally don't even shoot the Russians. I leave that up to the Ukrainians rofl2.
