I am actually surprised it is dated that late considering how it is made...perhaps the naval surplus gives a better timeline of how long that style was made, possibly more of them were left unused.  Then again, that recent CIA thing kind of makes it seem like a lot of what was going on may have been a few years later than we suspected. For that report to be so incorrect/incomplete four years after main production started....it seems like Russia must have been stockpiling for awhile before even issuing these, I mean...it was technically peacetime.

The photo I have of cadets marching exclusively with SKS spikers in 1958 makes me wonder just how long it was before the SKS was even put to use. Perhaps the BBQ paint was just easier to DUST than bluing?

Thanks everybody for the nice comments. Couldn't have pulled it off without the ENABLERS!!

On a side note, if I threw this up on GB as an "official Naval rifle" 1)how many slams, and 2)how much $$$, do you think it would bring.
(Not that I'm selling it, because my daughter already claimed it in her inheritance.) Maybe that's why she was so willing to give up the pouch; she knew she'd get it back.

That's cool, In reality though, I doubt I'll buy one. Not like I'm going to make a display and not really cold enough to wear one here in south Kansas City. Buuuut, you never know I might change my mind, LOL.
