Noticed a few posts similar regarding the import mark. This one is void of the mark as well. Check it out...

Damn, that has to be a bring back.  Very nice. I'd like to have one like that.

Seems to be, but no paperwork or story to go with it unfortunately.

LC has an open call out to anyone who can provide a non-Vietnam era Chinese SKS without an import mark.  Five years later, nobody has been able to find a *single* example of one.  The old crew from the 'other' boards that claim that "I was there and back in the day there were hundreds of non-import marked SKSs that I personally handled!" is absolutely full of **** IMHO.

The patina, S/N range, and arsenal of all these non-import marked guns screams bringback.  The age old mantra of "buy the gun not the story" is undoubtedly true, but the gun tells the true story in my opinion.   If it were ever sold, this gun should be priced at a premium vs. an import marked year 13 /26\.  thumb1

RM, thanks. And yes I totally agree.

I agree, no import mark, it has the look, if it were mine, I'd treasure it in my collection as a Vietnam bringback  thumb1

Mine is in a little better shape, and a month or two younger (37k units later), but no import mark.  The initials 'LR' on the sling could well be from the GI who brought it back.

I have no doubts where it came from.

The LR was probably put there by the viet cong soldier that owned it when he got captured to denote "Lost Rifle". chuckles1

Ok...so I’ve owned this “bringback” for about 5-7 years I would say. I honestly never took it out shooting. I remember when I first purchased it in a private sale, I stripped it down...gave it a good oiling...then to the safe it went. I would periodically pull it out for a re-oil but never strip it down. I can’t believe I missed this! I’m guessing it’s the engraving of the soldier who brought it home along with his full social security number. I taped off 4 of the digits just to preserve his identity. What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Seen it before? It’s on top of the barrel just in front of the rear sight block.

If anyone knows a free way to find him, let me know. I tried but all the sites want to charge me. I would be interested in reaching out and reuniting this trophy with it’s rightful owner.

reunite with owner eh?
uhhh.. i'm tillman! 'no he's not tillman, i am!'  :)) :)) just kidding of course.
Noble idea, that would be incredible to find the original owner and get to know the true story of what happened first hand. I wish you the best of luck good sir.

Let me add....possibly reunite...

I must have had a few beers when I cleaned this thing. I still can’t believe I missed this!

I only pulled it apart today to fill out the survey. Wow

Are there a total of eight or nine numbers? You said you taped off four.  If it's only eight numbers, it would be Tillmans' service number.  Don't know how easy it would be to find him, but a Google search with what you have might turn up something.

Perhaps go here and do a search;https://www.togetherweserved.com/

9 digits would likely be his ssn.

I found a last name and a service number under the grip panel of a P-38 once upon a time.
