Side questions: Factory or arsenal? Are the terms interchangeable, or a distinction without a difference?

Bubbazinetti

As far as I know They are terms for Chinese to mean the same.
When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

American collectors seem to use the terms interchangeably. Looking at the translations from English into simplified Chinese of arsenal, 兵工厂, and factory, 工厂, one can see they share two characters. Arsenal appears to be in Chinese, as it is in English, a subset of the more general term factory, where arsenal basically means a military factory.

I use them interchangeably (though maybe I shouldn't).  Adding to the confusion is the fact that pre WWII they are universally called "arsenals" (Hanyang Arsenal, Xigu Arsenal, Tianjin Arsenal, Guangdong Arsenal, Kaifeng Arsenal etc.), whereas after Mao took over, they morphed into factories with simple numerical names (626 Factory /66\, 296 Factory (/26\, etc.)

Appreciate the inputs. The pre/post-WWII terminology seems pretty legit.

Going thru my old posts. Was the <6614> added to the list?

No, I dropped the ball on this one. It’s in my to-do stack and the photos are ready to catalogue along with about a thousand other  Chinese gun photos, but it just hasn’t happened yet.
