Stock wobble

Have about 1/8 in up and down movement in front of stock below gas tube where it should sit in the ferrule.

As far as I know, there are two stocks, one for the pinned barrel and another for the threaded barrel, top picture is for pinned barrel, second picture is for threaded barrel, I don't remember which type but the wrong stock will have some slack causing the barreled receiver to slide back and forth:

Up and down movement is usually caused by a poorly done rabbet cut on the front of the stock that fits into the ferrule though owenj is correct that the spike and blade cut stocks have crossbolts that don't line up well with the front of the receiver (causing forward to rear movement).   

Take these Sino-Banian examples:




Original stocks almost never have this issue.  Replacement stocks very often may.  Shimming is the only way I can think of to make the current stock fit more tightly.  Oftentimes, replacing the stock is an easier & more permanent solution.

I knew it was different but not 100% how it was spelled....I cheated and looked it up.

The stock is a laminated Russian (replacement '55) on a '52 bbl. The ferrule looks to fit  except for the up & down movement it is cut for the blade bayonet. Have to check if it is for a pinned or the other bbl.

All Russian SKS45s were long barrel lug guns, so you should be set there.  Odd that it has so much up and down play though.  The Russian armorers usually fit their replacement stocks pretty well.

Don't change stocks, you just need to fix the fit of the one you have.

Does the stock have play at the cross-bolt or is it tight there and thus pivot, or rock, at the back against the FCG? Sometimes it is not noticed because o the tension spring underneath the FCG in the stock.

If play at the cross-bolt then shim or build up at the cross-bolt. If it rocks/pivots at the cross-bolt then shim/build up under the FCG around the tension spring.

I've had to inlet and/or shim every replacement stock for every firearm I've ever had to do that to for a nice tight fit.

Arkslim, pop out your FCG and remove the spring underneath then reinstall your FCG. If the stock then rocks back and forth on the cross bolt it is indicating you need to shim under the FCG at the spring location.
If there is relatively no play in the stock at the back after removing the spring then you should shim at the top of the cross-bolt where the action rests on it in order to take up the play.
One of those two options should take care of your problem. Remember to reinstall your spring when finished.

Thanks Greatguns did as you recomended and found the play was at the cross bolt. tried several shim thicknesses  got one that worked now only have almost no movement where there was @1/8th in. Now I can install my new spring loaded fp that I received today and see how it works. Thanks to "all"  who advised me in getting repairs made.
