Anything special about non arsenal marked rifles?

Saw a DIG Inc. VA Beach.  with a 91 -. Is 91 the year of manufacture?

Anything special about these?

If it's standard configuration carbine, with no arsenal stamp and 91 prefix serial...

it sounds like one of the late commercial guns. Essentially a new rifle assembled from leftover cache of NOS milspec parts.

IIRC these will often have a mix of features from the three decades of sks production in China.

Personal preference, I tend to pass on the commercial ones without a Type 56 marking...but if it was cheap enough I'd buy it 

Yes, 91 is presumably for 1991 assembly.

Though P32 is correct, they are certainly not interesting from a historical Chinese manufacture standpoint.  A bit of a misfit toy all shiny and new and devoid of anything historical that might make it interesting.  I suppose the fact that they were the last ones out of China before the embargo hit is as much claim to fame as they will ever get.

No doubt!  I wholeheartedly agree.  The thing is, if that gun I just posted came across my desk with a sub $400 price tag, I’d be all over it!!!

Condition and need always trump price.   $400 is about an avg. SKS price these days but deals can still be had if you have the patience to look.  There's always another one some other day.

I’m with running-man, commercials can be great.  When I sold off my SKS collection, made sure to keep my tack-driver pinned barrel.  Recently bought minty ’52 Tula ($350) and mint (unfired?) commercial paratrooper ($450) and it’s the Chinese commercial I’m excited about, it’s a very high-quality build.  As for collectability, yea, for most people there’s zero interest, but I like running across a new commercial and trying to figure it out.  When I had large collection, it included lots of commercials for study.  And people collect Colt, S&W, Ruger, not for their military history.  There’s history in the Chinese commercial aspect, too.
