My opinion is worthless, or worth exactly what you paid for it.

Concerning the trapdoor though, I agree with the others about just the spring. You said the spring was crumbling. Does that mean you have already taken it apart once? You did an awesome job if so because I can't see a single scuff mark on the screw slots. But if you haven't that left screw in the picture looks like it might give any screwdriver some problems. But it's a picture so I can't tell for sure.

I was able to remove the buttplate to get a good look at the trap.  The spring was a wad of rust and the inside of the trap not much better, so I'll have to remove the rust an replace the spring, if possible.

It may be tough to find the little trap door spring. Assuming your SKS has the large coiled spring for the cleaning kit, then if you keep a cleaning kit in the stock it’ll provide plenty of tension to keep your door closed  :)

That is true, but after doing a detailed cleaning on her yesterday and getting most of the rust off the inside of the butt plate and the trap assembly,  I had to reach inside with a dental pick while pushing the cleaning kit with a finger to get the trap door to close.

Doing the cleaning, I found a couple of triangle stamps on the stock and the extractor was electro penned 4645.  There was a large amount cosmolene in the mag and trigger assembly that took a while to clean out.  She cleaned up good, though.

See if this agrees with you>>

Cheap part so shipping will kill it.

It's a fairly common style spring. Napa would likely be able to get you one. Or a good hardware store. They could be found on household items like small boxes, just gotta keep an eye out.

Thanks, Randy. I ordered from Aimpoint.

I'm guessing same place only different... The only Aimpoint I could find was for Red Dot sight systems... But many links took me to Aimsurplus. No matter, you got one coming and that's good.  thumb1

You are right, Randy, AimSurplus.  Got the spring(s) in yesterday and replaced the trashed one.  Took a while to figure out how to hold the trap to punch the pin out, but it got done.

Thanks, all.  She's a good piece.  Been looking for one like her since I sold my first one in '83.
