« on: July 03, 2019, 08:48:51 PM »
Hi everyone

I put a Chinese SKS on layway last month Its a Norinco which I got for a pretty good price due to the Bayonet missing. I'm new to the SKS how do i know if its a knife or spike bayonet I need?

Welcome Gary! A serial number and arsenal markings can help us determine whether it needs a blade or spike bayonet. If you don't like sharing SNs tell us the first two numbers and how many digits.  :)

Hmm, Iím unfamiliar with that SN format. Assuming the importer added R00 to the beginning to ensure it was a unique number in their records then it would be a 21 million, 21st year of production Type 56 (1976) and require a spike bayonet. Iím also assuming itís a standard configuration with 520 cm (20.5Ē) barrel. Spikes are still easy to find. Notice Iíve made a couple of assumptions and pics would help when you can get them but it likely needs a standard length spike bayonet.

hi Gary and welcome. good to have you here. pics of underside of stock (the bayonet cut out area) would help to tell what will fit there.

It would be pretty interesting if Norinco was a name attached without reference to reality and this was a KBI Russian misread.
That is a wacky serial for a Chinese...and a bit off even for a KBI, misread.
If indeed Chinese, the arsenal and importer data are pretty crucial....pictures an absolute must over and above that. :)

21 = 21st year of production = 1976. The "R00" in front of the SN was added well after original production. Looks like a /0223\, maybe, but the arsenal stamp is bleached out by the flash, so hard to say.

In any case, definitely a spike bayonet.

Hey Gary. And, Welcome to the board!

The area immediately to the left of the serial number and the Chinese ideographs is what we're needing to see clearly. As mentioned earlier, it looks like it could be [0223]. That's the arsenal mark that we're trying to determine for you. Throw in a few pics of the rifle when you get the chance, too!

Unfortunately, no. The arsenal stamp is the marking that looks like an odd looking number inside a triangle to the left of the Chinese characters.

Between the two I'd be pretty confident it's a /0223b\ stamp

Not to be confused with the /0223a\ stamp.

Hi Gary!

Yeah, that last pic shows us it's Arsenal /0223\ that produced your rifle. And the stock is definitely made for the spike bayonet. I think I still have a few extra standard length spikes, if you need or want one. Let me know if you do and we can work something out.

I can't see your barrel/receiver match-up to know if it's a pinned barrel, or not?

Your rifle looks like a decent example, for as much as I can see. Put a bayonet and sling on it and she'll be an as-issued example. Does it appear to be all-matching numbers?

I Look forward to seeing it in it's completed state and whole-rifle pics taken to show her off here on the board! We are somewhat voyeuristic about our gun pics, don't cha know?!  :) :) thumb1 (Just watch out for that GM guy!!!:-X ??? :P

Hey friend

I would definitely love to get a bayonet, I'm on a fixed income and the prices on Ebay are a little high. Hope we can work something out. There's no barrel pin its a short lug version. I promise full pics coming soon. Does Arsenal /0223/ mean its a former military issue?

Gary

The Chinese ideograms 五六式  mean Type 56 and hence military issue.

I forgot to add. All the numbers match except one. The Cover over the bolt carrier has a different number. All others are the same
