I ordered it on Saturday, Monday they were sold out, I thought, Oh, no.....bottom of barrel, but, I think I did alright.  All matching on the outside, stock in good shape other than the usual, no cracks but with a name lightly carved, MIRI S.  Bluing good except for receiver cover which is a little light.

You did well!   thumb1

Much better shape than the hand select dogs that showed up early on!  I wonder if this one was pulled out and set aside for a future pick by one of the warehouse guys, only to be sold out from under when grabbed by another warehouse guy to fill one of the final orders?

Vey nice carbine there!  If they could guarantee that 'hand pick' got you something like this, I think the collecting community would be a little more lenient with Ben and Classic in general.

I agree and I have purchased late in the game from them before and ended up with a nice rifle.  Might be that they set a few nicer aside and if they don't need them, sell them at the end.  I think the stock will clean up nicely, all I did was wipe the metal with a paper towel.

ARMY NAM VET, SO PROUD!

Took a gamble and won.

Did you pay for hand select and milled trigger too? If not, even luckier so late in the sale.

Single piece gas tube to boot.

Very nice catch

Just put a quarter in and pulled the lever.....got lucky

Matching. That's a winner!  thumb1

A little gentle heat and wiping and that stock will be good to go!

That's one fine specimen. If the muzzle is OK, you're a triple winner. Good to see someone get a nice rifle. PAX

Congrats. Looks really nice before the clean up. Post photos after the bath.

ded321

I'll be cleaning it up this weekend so I'll post some after pics.  Thanks for all the input.

ded321

Some pics after the clean-up, the last pic is of the stock in the barrel channel, there is a red splotch, a little darker than the pic...any ideas??

Phosphorus32

Looking good! I think you called it, that's a genuine "red splotch"  :))

Loose}{Cannon

well....  I don't think it would be dried blood or else it wouldn't be a bright red.

Looks to be a good example, its a keeper.    thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

ded321

LOL....I had 2 people that saw it here say blood, darker in person (flash?)...I doubt it but threw it on here to see if anyone else brought it up....Now to the range,,,thanks for looking.

Bob_The_Student

Looks good. Highly doubt it's blood it would be way darker. Did you try to remove. To me from photo looks like it might "rub" away with a little attention. Just my opinion, however.

ded321

Rubbed it a little with my finger, nothing came off, dried on pretty good it seems.

Could it just be a smudge of concentrated dye that didn't get mixed in to the shellac, perhaps a dirty finger with some on it by a worker?

Wait, when did they invent Kool-Aid...and had China back engineered it by the point of this being assembled.  chuckles1

I scraped some off (I know that will trigger some purists) and sent the DNA to Ancestory, that will put this all to rest and we will know if it is Chinese, Vietnamese or Albanian........or maybe it is just water, sugar and red #7 dye.

I wouldn't fork out $100 to try that, especially since the DNA is likely degraded, but I'll sure be interested to see if you get a hit. Hopefully, you included another kit with your fresh sputum sample as a control. If you've touched the area with ungloved hands your DNA will be fresher and more intact.

That's a really nice looking gun! You did really well. For what it's worth, I've seen that red mark on other stocks as well. I'm wondering if it was someone at the armory applying it to the stock for inventory purposes back in the day? Did you get any updates?
