Arsenal 316
« on: August 31, 2018, 10:55:27 AM »
It's been awhile since my first SKS, but just purchased my second - have been on the lookout for a "nice" Chinese for awhile and one finally came along. It's an arsenal 316, in beautiful shape, and picked up from the same guy I got my mint Russian from earlier - he's always been a source for nicer, high quality, SKS'. This one cost me ~$US220. On the road right now, but more info/pics when the mailman delivers it in a few days.

Canadian...eh!

Thanks folks and sorry for the delay, post was a bit late (I do live in the ass end of nowhere though lol), but in my hands now and a few quick pics below. Neglected to mention in origional message above that it is an all numbers matching (incl magazine) rifle and previous owner cleaned it, put a box of 20 non corrosive through it, and stored it away again. It certainly looks like it's seen very little use overall, bore is pristine, bluing is in great shape and the stock as well other than a few minor scratches/dings. I'll do a detail strip and clean (stock is still oozing a bit of cosmo) in a few days and post up some more detailed parts pics. I know my Russian has id marks on just about everything right down to the firing pin, will see how this one compares there too.

Looks to be a 1970 manufacture if I read the ser# right?

Ahh Canadian, now the price makes more sense.   :o

Still, you paid about the going rate for these up there right?  Certainly looks like a nice one, very clean stock and the magazine pin, while external, is at least not a frankenpin.  Nice pickup indeed!  thumb1

Maybe a few bucks more for this particular one because of it's shape, but still in the ballpark. Will fill out the survey section too now  thumb1

Well started the survey form and found I needed to strip the rifle down for a lot of it, so went ahead and did that to complete the form - interesting process there with data capture.  So just need to clean it all up tomorrow and post more detailed pics. Hey at least I know now ALL the numbers match including the gas tube and piston lol. No import markings either. But not near so many markings as the Russian letter version, that thing is covered - big parts and small.

Need me a "nice" Yugo now.

A few more detail pics, all cleaned and reoiled now and back together. Found another serial numbered piece too that I didn't notice last evening, nor include on the survey I completed then - the extractor is stamed with the last 4 digits.

It's obvious this rifle hasn't been shot a lot, but it has seen some use, and cleaned the carbon out of it to prove it. Not a lot again, but for comparsion here is the Chinese piston on the left (after cleaning) and still obvious carbon darkening on it's face. The Russian letter gun I have showed now sign of carbon when I cleaned it (just lots and lots of cosmo lol) and it's piston's face is spotless, completely carbon free. Seems to be a slight difference too between the Chinese and Russian piston - Chinese on the left:

With it's safe-mate (it's not shorter than the Russian, just pic angle)....

Your sick photography skills or bad ass camera make those photos hard to believe...I nominate you official photographer, whenever a cool SKS comes along, you should be flown directly to it to document it. I wish I could afford to hire you to photograph mine.  8)

Thanks but I'm a pictographer (takes lots of pics and hope few turn out ok lol) not a photographer - I have an older model Sony compact digicam that is now, sadly, on it's last legs as a lot of the pics above are actually from an iPhone.  thumb1

...another gratuitous pic lol with it's Chinese sibling
