K98.. Yes/no?! $399 out the door

At a pawn shop, said they could do $399 out the door for this.  Metals all matching Eagles and all stamps intact.  Mismatch stock.

It's a K98 with eagles, it's a true German K98 for 400 bucks, whatcha waiting on, whip out the wallet and get gone with it.... Worry about the small details later, like the missing sight hood.

It's a Yugo rework but they kept the reworking to a bare minimum. Looks like a good deal. Steyr-Daimlers are some of the best Mausers made.

So in ya'lls opinion, what is the value of this rifle?

Hard to say without seeing all the numbers (German guys are funny about their numbers). Are there line outs? Force matches? Electropenning? The Yugo stock knocks it down a bit. Just from what I see, it would bring $425-500 on GB. Put it in an uncaptured stock and it's maybe a $600 gun.

Looks to be a Yugoslav refurb K98k by the 1 TRZ stamped in the stock.
All the Yugo refurbs I have seen have the swastikas peened over and have the bolts and magazine floorplates re-stamped to match

The Yugoslavs did a much nicer job refurbing these than the Russians.

Nothing premed over that I saw and none of the metal was re-serialized.  Stock serial doesn't match the rest of the metal.  I'll look it over more closely once I get it out of layaway.

If none of the metal is boogered, what's to say it's a refurb.  Maybe some one simply replaced the stock which may have been duffle cut or busted or ---

When you get to spend some time with it, the Mauser ju ju will hook you and you'll be a gonner. 

I wonder if the handguard matches the stock or rifle.  How's the bore -- not that it matters that much.  Hell, get that puppy.  jd

Can't beat that with a cedar club...to buy it was a good decision I think. From where I'm sitting it looks pretty good.

Yeah, the bore on mine is way less than pristine, and it still shoots about as good as most of the targets I see posted.  Heck, the stock alone would go for 150-200 bucks on E Bay.  jd

Well it's definatley mine.  It's on layaway, when I can afford to get it out I'll take more pics.  Kind of excited.  Been wanting a mauser for a while now.  Just bought a new truck and I have a n pap on layaway I have to finish paying for before I can pull her out.

I've heard that some of the sweetest k98 stocks come from Norway.  I would have been well on my way to saving for one until Blicero nailed me with an impulse buy on a bunch of bayonets.      I've gotta learn to focus..  jd

Covered wagon will be fine.  Matter of fact, we have a special lane for them on the highways around here.  I'm still tryin to figure out why I wanted a bushel of bayonets anyhow.  Best I can come up with is that subconsciously I want to by rifles for all of them.    jd
