Thanks Pat, but we are good for sks-files 'owned' photos. We can serve them using a portion of the 10 GB disk space we are allocated when we purchase and renew our lease with our service provider. Currently we are paid up for the next couple years, so we are in good shape once I upload the photos and change the links in the various FAQ and HOWTO posts.

Ideally we would serve all the board photos locally instead of having to have everyone rely on third party hosting sites like photobucket or flikr. Unfortunately, there's no way that 10 GB would come close to doing that. We would need mamy TB (1000 GB) of space and that kind of disk space gets ridiculously pricey in a hurry.  Some of the very large boards do this (milsurps.com and gunboards I believe), but even with local hosting, when their databases get corrupted, things still can go south in a hurry.  There's no silver bullet I'm afraid. I think the Amazon prime thing or even Google photos might be a viable option for individual users, but everyone will have to decide what's best in their particular situation.  thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Sounds good....I am shocked that photobucket went this route......their service was sorta crappy to begin with.....and now they're asking money for it.....smh......

Funny thing is it's not all users. I got hit, GM got hit, but P32 still has his up and working. I suspect they will eventually make things apply to all users the same way, but then again maybe not.  Maybe they just wanted to send a message to higher volume users?  I really don't know what the motivation is, but blocking some while allowing others in an arbitrary way sounds like a good way to get the gov't involved in your business practices.

The rumour from another site I frequent says that a free user will still be able to have their photos hosted on "slushbucket" but will not be able to link/host to them elsewhere.  While I understand that the hosting is free, why would someone want to do that if they are unable to link to them?  I have since removed all of my photos from there.

Yeah, the links worry me a bit because it has the word 'templink' in it.  I wonder if it goes away after some period of time?

Well, I answered my own question.  Amazon links are not stable, they change based on login.  :(  Oh well, was worth a try....

As a member of several firearms discussing groups.  The http://p38forum.com/forums/index.php  and the http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/defensive-carry-guns/
and also the http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/classics/ and http://luger.gunboards.com/forum.php , let you post pictures to a server the have.

This site and the http://www.mauserguns.com/forum/index.php and https://www.ar15.com/index.html all need a third party picture hosting site.

I know its expensive but I just wanted to show who does and who does not host pictures directly in my world.

running-man

Believe me Don, if I could host all your guys' photos on our server they'd be there in a heartbeat.  We experimented with it when we first opened and immediately realized that our little 10 GB disk limit is no match for hundreds of members with thousands of photos over many years.

Looks like PS and Xtriggerman got hit today too.  I wonder how long it takes them (or if they ever do) hit anyone with paying accounts.

It came. I was surprised, then pissed. This has to be a form of extortion. I paid another years "fees" on June 05, 2017. Now they're saying "any member who's Plus acct. was in good standing on Jun 01, 2017 shall continue to receive all PB services that were avail. to them on such date, blah, blah, blah." (Which was the 3rd Part Hosting, of course. What else am I gonna put all these pics on there for?) And, BTW, since they changed me from monthly payments in May to yearly in June, there are NO REFUNDS ON FEES. So, pay up or shut up. This is BS! What the h*** do they think their site is for? I guess I've got a year to transfer all my pics to another site and cancel my Plus acct. auto-pay sub. They're losing a seven-year paying member for a four day lapse, er, loophole, per their "Terms".  Yeah, they're biting the hand that feeds them now.

I just got the email notice today from Photobucket. " We noticed You have been using Photobucket for 3rd party hosting Please upgrade to a Plus 500 plan."  I am not going to do it sorry.  What do they I created my library for.
