There is a pic of the left side stock, very faint star with what looks to be 1955, 1956, or 1958 below, my eyes are getting bad and I can't find my magnifying glass. Getting old is not for sissy's.

Very very nice. Congrats man  Thats 1 heck'uva 1st SKS.  One thing though....and I hate to be the 1 to tell ya.....but......don't expect it to be your last 

Bet she'll shoot as good as she looks too.  My 1st was a BBQ'd beauty of a 1950, still my favorite to this day.

I'm reading 1953 on that stock, though it could be '55.  '56 stamps are purported to have been seen in Canada, but I have my reservations. To my knowledge, a '58 has never been seen. Regardless of what it is, the stock is not original to the rifle.  Still, like PS say this is a light refurb. It's a very nice gun, you picked a good one for your first!
