Laptop crapped out on me

Okay, update on things going on on my end. Did the latest updates on Windows 11 on my 8 year old laptop and a few days later the motherboard was fried. Spent 2 days doing some research and browsing for a replacement on my wife's iPad (what a pain) and ended up with a new Acer Swift Go (no relation to Taylor BTW) 16" Touchscreen, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD. Just got it set up. I was lucky in that Windows does a backup once a month for me and it was the night before it crapped out. The only down side so far is that I have to find a way to manually boot up the old hard drive so I can create an export file from Firefox in order to get my bookmarks transferred over as windows only does that for Edge. Got all my photos and other files though.
Going to put the drive in an external case to see if I can boot from it when hooked up via USB port. Got the important sites (my gun related stuff) setup and bookmarked manually so I'm back online to bug you guys.
I will mention that I (puts on tin foil hat) think it was the Windows update that crapped my computer and that the old motherboard couldn't function and overheated. I had already been noticing certain features not working and things getting slow and with the new computer I no longer have an issue logging in here so, part of the login and other issues concerning the files could possibly be due to the age of ones computer.
I remember when I upgraded to Windows 11 they mentioned that older computers may not have all features available due to processor limitations.

Anyway, last 2 days have been fun...NOT!!!

Ugh hate that for you man. Unexpected Computer crashes are the worst. You possibly lose the data but you also lose your time trying to get back to where you were not to mention the stress of "what if I can't get that stuff back?!"

Backups on a schedule are definitely the way to go!

8yr old, so young.... I built my desktop in '07. We're talkin dual core Athlon, 8gig ram, and a couple of ATA drives..     why blow money on tech, that's less for ammo.

Good news, for me at least, my google-fu is strong today and I was able to figure out how to access my Firefox profile from my old hard drive (now in a USB enclosure) without having to boot to the old OS. It is stored in a hidden folder, but once I knew that I was able to access it and a simple copy/paste into the proper folder on my new C drive and I now have all my old bookmarks, extensions, etc. Then, after a quick read from Firefox support I was able to delete the new profile and all is back to what I had before, but on a new and faster computer. 

Just call me a happy camper.
