Guess its a 1950 because its stamped 1950 on the stock but what do the symbols mean?

FV are the english translation of the Russian Cyrillic letters above on the receiver. Just part of the SN
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Looks like a nice one, possibly as-issued. Very rare to see '50s with the original stock like that. Would love to see more photos of the rest of the carbine if you're able to. thumb1

As GG said, the FV is the importers (in this case Century Arms, "CAI") transliteration of the Russian characters "ФВ".  This enabled them to log "FV25xx" in their import records and bound book as BATF does not allow non latin characters in firearms records. 

I have another example of a ФВ prefixed 1950 SKS45.  Not quite as nice as yours I don't think.
