50 has the same gas block....  Who says someone didn't toss on a spike, or that it wasn't installed at refurb?

It's a '49 or a transitional '50.  I'd gladly pay $178 plus shipping for either of those  dance2  rofl

Only true way to know is to see if the stock ferrule has the telltale spot weld where the bayo notch was generated to accommodate the blade bayo on the transitional '50.  Even then, it could be a refurbed '49 upgraded to a blade bayo.

I see "EM" or perhaps "EH" as the S/N.  EM is a well known '49 S/N prefix with 3 known examples and a fourth that is a very heavy refurb with a blade bayo that has a "matching" '50 cover.

I agree with P32 though, whether a '49 or a transitional '50, that was a heck of a deal for whoever bought it regardless of it being in Canada or the US.  thumb1

Just passed 1010 guns in the database with another 458 new photos to go through (that will translate to another 75 ish guns I bet).  There are some very definite patterns emerging, I think we should be able to start narrowing down which S/Ns are likely transition points like when they went from one bayo lug to another or from the early square receiver to the late round receiver, etc..

The tell-tale sign on this gun was the low-pro stock ferrule without notch.  thumb1

+1....I would take 3 or 4 at that price.

A post on an auction leads to a great discussion of info on the early SKS-45  thumb1
