Talking to a guy trying to sell his 54’ Izzy for $850. All matching EXCEPT for the bolt carrier unfortunately; everything else is matched to the rifle.

I would jump on it given the opportunity.
The BBQed carrier could be replaced with one in the white...if it's mismatching anyway.  The contrast of the paint to the bluing is rather stark huh?
I think that is a pretty fair price...

Yeah, the mismatched number and finish on the bolt carrier is a ding, but these days that price is probably not unreasonable for a genuine refurbished 1954 Izhevsk, like this one. I'd be happier if it was $100 less, but that might be pushing it. I don't have any Izhevsk slots to fill, so I haven't been keeping up on market prices.

I want to buy it too, but would also be more comfortable if it were in the $725-$750 range, though i definitely wouldnt know market price for an Izzy. Just wish the carrier was matching. Non-matching bothers me more than it should. Lol

The laminate stock is also not original.

$850 is pre-covid pricing for an all matching 1954 Izzy. The market will probably stay spiked for another year, but I can's see any way to justify 850 for the mis-match carrier and replacement stock.

If he decides to come down to $750 would that be an apprehensive yes? How do you know the stock is not original? I thought i read somewhere that some 54’ Izzy had laminate stocks, but i may have misunderstood/misread.

Original Izhevsk stocks were hardwood, and they have complete serial numbers, date, and arsenal stamp.

IMHO, I still think $750 is too high for what it is:

1954 most common Izhevsk + mismatch carrier + replacement stock = just a really cool, sturdy shooter.

Original Izhevsk stocks were hardwood, and they have complete serial numbers, date, and arsenal stamp.

The mismatched bolt carrie is the biggest drag on the high price. $750 would be a fair price with just the matching replacement stock. But the carrier drops it into the unique "shooter" range.

Gotcha, I appreciate the thorough input. I’ll let this SKS pass and hope for another one to pop up.

I need to fill the 54' Izzy slot eventually, but at 850$ for this particular piece I wouldn't even try haggling the guy down.

850$ for a mismatched refurb is what we are talking about here at the end of the day...   nea1

Even covid pricing that's way too much, Just my .02

CARBINE

Lots of refurbished izzys have tula stocks or stocks with xxxed out serial numbers, this stock is the original refurbished stock so that wouldn't bother me....but the mismatched carrier sucks a big one.

How much would you expect this mismatched SKS to go for? And how much would a full matched one go for? Pre and post covid pricing would be nice but any insight would be helpful.

If it matters at all, I am in California.
