stripper clips

Hi guys,
I picked up some aftermarket reproductions at a gunshow awhile back..... and had the typical issues of loading. After watching a few vids and reading about how some guys try and rectify the problem, I tried a way that really helps alot, matter of fact, it will get as good as it will get.

I loaded up some dummy loads, and worked the loaded clip in my bench vice...

Standing the clip with cartridges up, I worked one end of clip to the other gently closing the vice jaws on the clip lips.

Next layed the clip with cartridges flat, I worked the clip in the vice jaws gently pressing the lip of the clip from one end to the other.

Basically what I accomplished is the channel where the cases slide into.. having a slightly looser fit, causing the cases to bind.... The channel now is tighter and now the cases do not bind and slide down easier in the clip.

It works very well...

Thanks, Ralph. Those clips tend to be rough, also, so running a fired steel casing through them several Tim's gets them a bit smoother. Thanks again, Bruce.

Been trying to score some of those for a while now.
I have a mix of good clips for shooting, but I'm specifically trying to fill two ammo pouches.

Pretty much all of them work well except the new Chinese ones.

Even then, those seem to work well in some rifles.

A buddy just gave me chinese marked 31.. and they work great.

I just picked up 20 stripper clips plus a chest rig for $25.90 shipping included from Sarco. Best deal I've found to date.

The clips are all new-looking, but they were carefully cleaned of cosmoline before they were shipped. They are grey metal marked with a 211 on the spine. I was hoping not to end up with NC Star clips, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Steel cased ammo slides right through with no snags, but the copper washed surplus is a little sticky. I tried sliding a steel cased round that I had dipped in CLP through them...it helped a little bit.

The rig itself looks new and unissued, very stiff, with a few white spots from storage. I'd definitely recommend it!

I decided not to take the chance on it being mold. Gave the rig a good soak in hot water and dish detergent, then a scrub with a brush. Sun dried it today, then loaded it, folded it and stowed it in an ammo can.

Nylon lining in the pouches (not just the cleaning kit pouch) makes me think it's recent production.

Wood toggles. Canvas fabric, nylon backing in the pouches and on the reverse of the belt. Chinese characters on the back of the belt. Google instant translate was all over the place when I pointed my phone at it, but I was able to get "7.62 millimeter, "Semi automatic," and "Type/ Year 79."

I have had many "aftermarket" stripper clips over the years. My fix has always been to take either lapping compound(preferred) and CLP. I take a spent round and coat the rim with the compound then run it back and forth on the clip to de-burr/smooth out/break-in the channels of the clip. Then clean it off with brake cleaner spray and finally spray it with CLP or gun oil. Have never had much issue with them after that.
