Hi all.Nice to be here.I lurked for a while and liked what I see and decided to join in.I have two SKS's and have owned others. They have always been good guns and extremely rugged.I enjoy learning about the rich history and the strange dating of these rifles.

Welcome from Arizona.

You've found the right place to learn about the rifles. You're certainly right about the history.

Yeah,thanks again guys.

I have a Navy Arms import type 56 with matching numbers from arsenal [0136].It has what I think is a useless type 89 scope rail riveted to the left rear of the receiver.Supposedly at the time when I got it new was Chinese unissued.Maybe it was military. It's 8 digit serial in the 21,000,000's.I think maybe a circa 1976 era?As best I can tell.

The other one is a Norinco Sporter detachable mag carbine with a thumbhole stock imported by Labanu,Ronkonkoma,NY or something like that.

Hello and welcome Bubba...

Greetings from SW Missouri, Bubbazinetti! Glad you're here!

Your '76 Chinese Type 56 via Navy Arms import is a nice example. It was a miltary issue Type 56. (before it got to Navy Arms) We love to see pics of the members' SKS, so post 'em up when you get the chance!

The Type 89 scope mount rail is kinda "just there" without the Type 89 scope mount. The mounts are rare and usually pricey if you do find one. I was lucky enough to find a couple from a gun parts distributor before they got crazy on prices or I wouldn't have one either. Just educate yourself on identifying the Type 89 mounts and watch at gun shows ,local gun shops, and pawn shops. It can happen. Keep the faith!  thumb1

Is your Sporter still in original configuration with the thumbhole stock? They can be a fun range gun. They seem to be keeping stable in price, too. Good commercial investment!

Thank you from NH.I bought both guns new a long time ago.I didn't have an eye on them as collector pieces, just utility guns or shooters.I really like the ChiCom type 56 a lot but the Norinco thumbhole Sporter has been a big dissappointment as far as shooting fun goes.It does not shoulder very well,I can't get a cheek weld at all on it and that greatly affects it's shootability. It basically has no drop from the receiver.I have to litterally come off the gun and below to get a sight picture.I imagine this feature would lend itself well to the mounting of a scope.I'd like to put it in a conventional style wood stock with the proper cast and drop to make it into a good shooter like my ChiCom.I'll take pics and post them up in the near future and enter them in the survey.

Hello from Kali. PAX
  You need a crew

"A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined" (George Washington),
But they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of Independence from any who might attempt to abuse them. echo1

Stocks are available and pop up often.
I'm on an AK specific board and they come up over there quite a bit.
I usually post a link for them in the for sale section.

We'll get you fixed up pretty soon.

Welcome from Iowa.

I like all guns that shoot Russian ammo. All my AR's have 7,62 x39 barrels. 2 SKS's and one Vepr with a left handed thumbhole stock (my very favorite rifle!). Yup, I shoot wrongpaw. Very left eye dominant.

Bubbazinetti

Then you must be in the right frame of mind.Very cool.

Nice to know I'm not the only southpaw here.
