So I also got this. photos sort of specifically did not show the stock issue, or the spiker stock on a blade SKS. (otoh, i didn't pay all that much)

In the later photos you see a spare blade stock I picked up on the recent clearview sale. On the one hand, i want to swap it out, on the other hand,, the trench art on this stock is pretty deep and interesting.

but I don't want to shoot it with a half inch of movement.

Whatcha think?

So the action moves back and forth in the stock that much...yeah, that's "ungood" for shooting. You could pop it into that Romanian stock for shooting and keep the trench art adorned stock with the gun in your collection. Flip that blade bayonet over while you're doing the stock swap.

I'm ostly trying to figure out how it ended up with that stock int he first place.

The Albanians replaced the stocks when they were bad enough. The replacements weren't necessarily great either b

That is a quintessential Albanian replacement stock right there, right Down to the terrible fit of the stock into the stock ferrule. Believe it or not, there are far worse examples from the 2014-2016 import batches out there.  The metal is not in that bad of shape with honest bluing wear. I bet she ahoots just dandy though!  thumb1

so this is by way of albanian assistance from the chinese or?  I know a little about some other aspects of the sks diaspora, but I haven't paid enough attention to some ofthe chinese aid programs outside of africa.

Yes, the thousands of early Type 56s, ghost guns through 7 million series, with blade bayonets, that came into the US between 2012 and 2014 all came out of Albania. They  originated in Chinese assistance to the Albanians during the 1960s. The recent batch of 10 million to 1.5 million series spike bayonet equipped Type 56s also came out of Albania via Austrian based arms dealer Limex.

that latter batch being the stuff classic is selling?

cool, good to know. it makes the stock thing make more sense. the 1990 date carved in is funny.

I'd keep the stock that doesn't fit just for the trench art; I feel that it makes each rifle distinctive in its own way.

Plus, mine has a mismatched stock as well, and it's kind of fun to do a little battlefield forensics and figure out why your SKS ended up the way it did. I'm a nerd like that, I guess.

santaroga

I agree. I love the trench art. I'll still be looking for the full chinese ghost in my travels.

I'm pondering a non permanent bedding brace, or just pop it into the spare stock for shooting.

A carefully done shim would help.
On the other hand....you got another SKS! Heck yeah!

I've recently found some stocks for sale on another board. Links in the for sale section.
