Shot a 1 + 1/4 inch 3 shot group with my 1952 Russian Tula SKS last weekend shooting Russian surplus ammunition.
This was at 100 meters with the rear sight set at 100. I was aiming at the bullseye centre and it was shooting low as it was my first group I shot of the day while working on getting my front sight zeroed.

After getting the front sight adjusted properly the best I could do for the rest of the day was  a 3 inch 5 shot group at 100 meters.
Got to say I'm quite happy with the accuracy of this particular rifle when using Russian surplus ammunition.

At 100 meters, or yards, that's better than I'll do any day with a Type 56.  Are you shooting bench rest, sandbagged?

Thanks for sharing your results!

100 meters , I shoot lying prone with my rifle rested on my rucksack.

Great shooting. I don't think I've ever seen Russian surplus 7.62x39 down here in the US.

You see a tin or two pop up in the US every once in a blue moon, but considering the last of it came in around '94, it's pretty uncommon.  I suspect cartridge collectors may have it hoarded away for a rainy day, but your day to day range ammo it is not (down here anyway).  chuckles1

Great shooting there OP!  (much better than I could even dream of doing @ 100 meters) thumb1 thumb1

Thanks ! The Russian and Chinese surplus is easy to come by up here , I've got a bit stashed away at the moment as it's going up steadily in price.

How much does the point of impact shift once the barrel warms up?

Doesn't appear to be much.

It starts to spread out after about 30 rounds continuously. Most I've shot continuously is 40 rounds and it was steaming and smoking after that lol

I was kinda surprised how much my SKS-M heated up after the first 30rds. There wasn't any rapid fire, either. We ended up shooting about 200rds total through it that day and it was uncomfortable towards the end of the range trip. That was using the Russian Wolf ammo, 124gr HP.

I have some of that Russian surplus ammo in the 120rd "battle packs" as they were called. Headstamps were 91-94, I believe. Most of those I just stuck in ammo cans or left in the original cases because of the sealed packs. It's pretty good ammo, though.

Yeah i usually shoot 20 or 30 rounds then switch rifles and let it cool off a bit. I usually take a couple of rifles and shotgun out shooting so I swap between them all fairly regularly during the day.
