Cz 527 Varmint Kevlar

This is my preferred long distance ground hog popper. A Cz 527 with a factory kevlar stock and a heavy 24 inch barrel in .223. This is a later model with a 1 in 9 twist barrel, the early ones were 1 in 12. And you can utilize a set trigger feature which drops trigger pull to less than a pound, personally I don't use it, it's a tad touchy,  the standard pull is a little less than 4 pounds.

I was very close to buying one of these in 7.62x39 a few years ago but purchased a Mini-30 581 instead. Sold the mini,, should have bought the CZ. But it was in wood.

How's she shoot? Sure is pretty

She shoots good, wih 55grain or less, it likes V-Max at a hundred yards, it will hold quarter sized groups.  50 grain is the sweet spot, I've got a boz of 45grain, but never tried it. From 60grain up, it gets inconsistent, two good shots and drops the third 3 inches away.


Yea, I feel your pain, I have a Mini 14, I shoulda just got another Cz.

That's a purty thang! I agree, a one pound or less is a tad light for me too. How many times have you caught your thumb between the scope and bolt!

I just recently picked up a CZ527 Royal in .223 with the 1:12 twist barrel.
It loves 50 gr ammo so far.
It has a kind of a unique stock with a lot of drop on the comb so I had to put a cheek riser on in order to get better than a chin weld. The new cheek riser worked out nicely because I could adjust the front and rear independently.
I put a Nitrex 6x20x50mm scope on it , Harris 6-9" swivel bi-pod and used CZ rings that just barley gave enough clearance for the scope objective .
I can shoot a 1" smiley face sticker all day long with it @ 100 yards 
I know what you mean about how light the set trigger is but it makes it nice for bench shooting.

I've never really wanted a bolt action .223.  Just never really saw the purpose as ar's are so dang accurate any more if you enjoy that caliber.  I will say she is a looker.  If I was to get a varmint gun, I would pick a different caliber.  Something like a .243, 22-250, or 25-06 would be what I would look at.

I got it because at the time I had a Mini 14 and a heavy barrel H&R Handi rifle in .223, so I had the ammo already. It is a common cheap caliber, with lots of load variations that accomplished what I wanted. Not being an AR fan, it was a worthy alternative for me. Granted  I could have chose .22-250, but it was just another caliber to have laying around, .243 would have been another alternative, but I already have a .243 bolt rifle.

One of my best friends told me: " Nice rifle! Too bad it has no purpose". LOL

I suppose it makes me smile when I shoot it and that's all it has to do 

Maybe one day I will get a chance to take it out ground hog hunting 

I would ad it shoots better (more accurate) than my Rock River 20" heavy barrel AR.

Hahahah, at least I'm not alone in my train of thought.  I guess I can understand why some might like it.  It's just not my cup of tea.  I'm surprised to hear it can shoot even better then your RR.  Hose are some of the most accurate ar's.

223 can be scary accurate, and I sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.  The cost of reloading components is just the icing on the cake.
