The cleaning rod on the SKS I got won't thread onto the cleaning accessories.
I ordered another cleaning kit with rod as well as two individual rods & they'll work with the cleaning kit I ordered, but not the original.
What gives?

Depends on the rod you have... most Aks, SKSs Mosins all have a whitworth thread on the cleaning rod.... it's like a British Standard thread and not really compatible with modern standardized threads like standard fine/course and metric threads. Newer ones, like commercial rods might have the typical newer style threads.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

So it's quite possible the cleaning kit/rod has the whitworth thread?
Would you happen to know where the rods can be found?

Is it worth it to find a whitworth threaded cleaning rod for my original cleaning kit when I have another rod/cleaning kit that screws together?

Thats totally your call  thumb1 I personally don't use the cleaning kit or rod.. they are for looks and to fill the empty voids. I don't even know if my kits in the butt stock will even thread on any of the corresponding rods.. rofl I just use a normal .30 cal brush and a normal Tipton rod to clean.

I know.. well I might if the rapture happens  :))  ok... a long shoe string with knots tied in it, soaked in diesel pulled through the bore would work too..

Larry D.

I'm a fan of bore snakes.
I have a small plastic Wally World toolbox that I keep all my cleaning supplies in. The tray holds all the liquids, brushes, and a USGI pistol rod.
Everything else goes under the tray.. Snakes, old kits of varying calibers, even Dads old Monkey Warts shotgun kit in the metal box.

The toolbox is similar in size to my range bags, so it can go to the range.

Two more cleaning rods arrived in the mail today.  Neither will screw on to the brush, etc.
I've got quite the collection of cleaning rods now!
