Boris, very nice pick-up. I'm glad you got it for $100 less after the "oh btw....".

Now just a general comment about posting about these shady sellers. Is there anyway when anyone discusses these "unscrupulous" sellers on websites to take a SCREENSHOT of their name etc....? My reason is I'm just seeing this post for the first time although 5 months later and as many of you know the links don't work. I know it's a GB thing but now we can't ever reference this guy by how he listed or his name etc....
I think if we screenshot at least the photo is there (usually) to refer to down the road. Just a thought to help each other out. I'm sure there are other ways to handle this also and I'm open to them. I just don't want any of us to get taken by one of these guys especially after it has been mentioned. Thanks

There will always be dishonest dealers and outright fraudsters.

The best way to insulate oneself, is to know as much about the item or type of item you are interested in. Lack of knowledge about a specific piece is the easiest way to get scammed.

More subtle clues will start to pop up like red flags. With this particular seller,  many of his other auctions had late bids from NR (No Rating) bidders, and bidders with only one or two reviews some of which were F ratings.  While this is not actual proof of fraudulent bidding, it is very curious that many of his simultaneous and recently finished auctions had these NR and poorly rated bidders so late in the bidding.

Probably the biggest mistake was that I bid without confirming if the bolt matched or not.

Still glad I got the rifle. But I will never deal with this seller again. I cannot prove he did anything fraudulent. When I pointed out the fraudelent late bids, he stepped up and sold me the rifle for my previous high bid of $455.

But there were too many 'oddities' with this auction and other auctions of his for me to do any further business with him.
