I'm new to SKS world having got my first, a 1951 Tula back in January.  I love it and wanted to get one for my nephew.  I'm in Ontario and it is getting very hard to find an unpainted SKS.  We embargoed them back in 2014 as part of the sanctions.  As a result the good ones are largely gone and mostly it is just BBQ jobs available.

So I asked the owner of my local gun store to keep his eye out for an unpainted one when he gets his next shipment in.  Last Saturday it paid off.  He got in a dozen all but one painted so he put that one aside for me.  She's a beauty.  A 1954 Izhevsk (only one I've ever seen here).  All bluing and showing really no signs of wear or use, but it is a refurb.  All numbers match except for the magazine. Sadly there was a rust blister on the right side of the receiver about 5mm in diameter.  I cleaned that up and put a little bluing paste on it (but it's still very visible).

Well, I can't give this one to my nephew!  Have to keep it as a companion piece for my Tula.  I'll have to keep looking for one for Ed. ;)

Oh Man. That one is worthy of a full detailed picture package display of detached parts. Yes, even if its in Canada. Good going on being patient for the real deal !  thumb1  Very Nice

Congratulations, nice looking Izhevsk  thumb1

Yeah, you've got the bug; Simonov Syndrome. There's no known cure, but repeated purchases of SKSs can alleviate the recurring itching, or is that izhing :o

Beautiful! Might I suggest getting two at the same time and keeping the one you like best for yourself...otherwise, you are gonna fall in love with all of them.

Not that that is a bad thing...
