What Tula should I get? ‘38 or ‘43

I am getting another Mosin as part of a trade, I can choose either. Both have laminated stocks and are in the same condition. All things being equal is either of these 2 rifles more desirable? I would probably lean pre war but I really don’t know if it matters.

They’re both refurbs (laminated stocks), so I’d choose the pre-war with the more refined machining of the barrel etc.

Either and or both    the prewar most likely will have better machining, both years are fairly common, and both are refurbs.

Thanks for the input, I’ll probably go with the ‘38.

I was going to say the same thing, my 91/30 is a 38, and the pre-war machining compared to the other wartime examples it came in with made a huge difference in my decision.  The wartime ones look like they were chiseled more than machined.
