Pounced on this one today......i have some minor un-bubba-ing to do....is this a weird c....or an E missing a leg??

Boris Badinov

Looks a little short for an "E" .

I have an "E" rifle and the "E" is same height as the numbers.

Should prolly strip off that thick spray coating and compare the other stamped parts.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I may be wrong but, I agree.  Looks more like a "C" to me.

Thing is about that stylized C...  We know a C would be completely missing if it did not fill the space, and it looks like a...... C.

One could argue for one reason or another they had multiple type/styles of stamp to work with and /or a correction was made sometime during its run.

Interested in seeing all the serialized parts.... Stripped.

I agree with Oli, the C would be stylized.  I think it's a worn/poorly stamped E.  Notice the E vs numeral proportions on these early E's:

I think the stamp broke in the early 8k's and they changed to a larger proportioned E in the later 8k's:

Nice work as usual RM.

Bah I should have looked at Boris's first...his is E4069.  There goes my guess!  chuckles1

Hah...  I just noticed he posted his serial already.

I still am confident there were at least half a dozen stamping monkeys with.... Half a dozen stamps.  I'm sure an E was an E as long as it satisfied Mao.

My early year 11million /26\ has a capital i or possibly lower case l at the end of the full serial on the side of the reciver. My father in-law's mid year 11million /26\ has no letter at the end of the serial... Any idea why?

Most likely added by the exporter, or was applied at some point during its service life... By an armory for example.

That makes sense. He bought his in the 80s. It doesn't have any import marks I can recall. Mine does.

It is indeed an E.....pics to follow.
