All the wrong pictures and description but I rolled the dice on this today.  Will post proper pictures when in hand. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/614246696

Neat!  You'll find that it's going to wind up being a training gun when you get it. Make sure you go over it with a fine toothed comb when you get it. Sometimes poorly functioning guns got sent for use as trainers, other times the guns were pristine and never actually fired but simply used as pieces for practicing aiming, teardown, maintenance etc. Very neat!  thumb1

Congratulations!! It's a very nice late 1950. It's actually my first time seeing a training model (Самозарядный карабин Симонова учебный ) for sale on GB.

It looks like a non-refurb, and the toe spliced buttstock on a 1950 is very interesting too.

You think that's a splice Cpt. Ke?  I didn't think so when I first looked at it, but I can kind of see it now, especially on the right side. Definitely the oldest year I've seen with a pristine spliced stock like that. Maybe that's the reason that it was designated as a trainer?  If only it could talk.  thumb1

How can you tell that it's a trainer?  I learn something new here every time I log in.

Nice get. Congrats!

I'm guessing the extra left side reciever stamps to the right of the serial number "уч 51" are what designates this as a trainer. I've never seen that receiver stamp before.

Thanks for the identification!  I had no idea there were trainers with the extra serial number.  I thought it was an importer applied number.

Thought the same thing.  Good information.

Got the rifle Saturday.  Posted a quick closup of the extra stamps next to the serial number.

Heh!  Century tried to translate those characters to english. S/N on this ineends in CHB in the importer's bound book.

Does the stock look like it has a toe splice?  I think pcke is probably right about that, though it would be the first one I've ever seen with both the toe splice and cartouche. Sure seems odd on such an early gun!

It is indeed a spliced toe.  Very odd.
