If you are sad and have no life (like me)  you can get sidetracked by anything on the internet and find some neat (but nerdy) stuff.
This came from a recently declassified cia report from someone who worked at the weapons factory.

I like the last point as it confirms my belief that gun parts were about as unique as lego pieces and too much emphasis is put on matching vs 'force matched'.

Very interesting. Would you happen to still have the link to the whole report?  Did they only talk about Hungary, or were there other iron curtain countries mentioned (Czechoslovakia, Poland, etc)?

i will upload the pdf, this was just about the things this guy knew from his work, locations of factories mostly.
I have a chinese arsenal piece i thought you would like, but its pre sks unfortunately

Good stuff!  I like seeing the early reports from the 50's, I have several including one of the two early SKS reports but I didn't have the other. 

Lots of info on the CIA FOIA site, I'll have to perform some searches when I've got a bit of time to kill. thumb1

SKT-40.... Carbine version... They do exist, pretty rare.

Marstar also made one I believe in the 90s.
