Your dream rifle? Non-refurb original 1947 Soviet Russian SKS

Saw this pic in the newly received Chumak's book and thought you guys may be interested. Gunboards forums member Ratnik earlier showed us pics of deactivated 1946 and 1948 SKS. However, they are: (1) refurb; (2) in wrong stock; (3) pics not that clear; and (4) have ugly cuts on multiple important parts.

Apparently 1947 SKS is quite different from the later mass production model (and variants), even compared to 1949 SKS. Very interesting example. I am dreaming one day I can get one.

Cool  I assume Чумак himself looked at the photographed rifle to determine the 1947 date. It would be nice if there was a receiver cover and serial number photos too, but in a book, pictures come at a hefty price, so editing decisions have to be made.

Agree. I think he actually found this example in a Russian museum (Военно-историческом музее артиллерии, инженерных войск и связи (ВИМАИиВС)).

Seems stock changes were next on the block for transition after 47'.
Not only the more obvious cheek weld style the stocks would eventually lose by 49' but the addition of the cut in the stock by it's bolt.
Very cool early trials find, please keep them coming!

There are so many differences compared to later mass production 1949.

After I saw this pic of 1947 trial rifle, I strongly suspect the refurb and deactivated 1946 training SKS Gunboards forums member Ratnik showed is very likely a 1948 rifle with a replaced 1946 receiver cover. Reasons: (1) serial Cyrillic letter prefix being '2A'; (2) features of certain metal parts more similar to 1949 (than 1947 trial rifle).
