I cant find the serial range The one listed is 12230xxx. I remember some in the 12mil range were IC rifles.

I don't know why...that odd carrier caught my eye, especially the color difference between the carrier and the bolt.

Apologies if you feel the notes are harsh, I call them as I see them.  I don't ever look at the bidders, and only very rarely at the sellers, so it's not a personal criticism directed specifically at you.  I can understand people not wanting to hear criticisms of their purchase, but I do feel you paid almost double what I would have considered a fair price for this gun though.

Now that I look at it again, I see that I made a mistake on the listing.  This gun is as-issued, not refurbished.  The stock photo is upside down, I saw that the last two stock digits didn't immediately match the rest of the gun and automatically assumed it was a replacement.  Looks to be the original stock, so that helps quite a bit actually!   

Had it been a refurb, it would have been an absolutely terrible deal.  These guns were barely moving @ $200 gunsmith specials, with $259-$300 deals for fair condition guns like this one routinely had from Classic, Royal Tiger, SOG, J&G, and even direct from Century themselves from 4Q 2012 all the way through the end of 2015.  They are still available from J&G for $329 + shipping actually: http://www.jgsales.com/chinese-sks-type-56-semi-auto-rifle,-7.62x39,-military-surplus-issue-with-bayonet,-c-r.-used.-p-58288.html

The prices have indeed crept up, but I'd be hard pressed to point out any Sino-banian that fetched a price north of $500.  For that kind of money, we're getting into as-issued, good/very good/excellent specimens originally imported in the 80's and 90's and then squirreled away in the original grease with the original retail box and all the original accessories.

The gun I agree is not worth as much as I paid, especially when you factor in the shipping. I had an FFL buddy accept the transfer for me and he did't charge me anything so that helped. I would have loved to dig through what J&G has remaining to find a good one on the cheap, but I doubt they would honor my request by sending detailed pics of each one until I found the one I wanted.

I was preparing to buy my first SKS when I spotted it. The pics absolutely sucked, but I was confident that I was looking at a matching 5-digit ghost with the Albania connection so I wanted it. I would have preferred one with better trench art but at least there was some on there. I actually expected to pay around $450 for it but some other chump thought he would try to scoop it up so I laid the hammer down. I may be a piss-ant in this world, but God help anyone bidding against me for something I want

You're right about buying sight unseen being a crapshoot.  For every beautiful as-issued specimen in good condition, there is a mixmaster rust bucket that someone else gets.  Paying the extra hand-select fees seems to have mixed results too, with some people getting guns that are clearly better than avg. and others getting total garbage.  Seeing the photos definitely gives you a leg up on getting exactly what you want. 

You'll learn all the nuances of the SKS collecting world pretty quickly I'm sure.  Your next SKS (and there will be a next one, it's inevitable unless you absolutely hate the one you just got) is out there waiting for you to find it.  When you do, you'll have the experience of your first GB SKS purchase to draw upon and help you judge the opportunity cost.  You can always ask questions here prior to a purchase too.  You'll get honest answers by people who understand the SKS market and might help point out some of the common pitfalls new collectors often find themselves up against.  In fact, there is a whole section in the Marketplace under the Auctions sub-board where you can post any ongoing or closed auction you want in order to get feedback from the community.  We're all in this race together, everyone gets a chance to learn.
