Hi. Jubal JS Harshaw. Late 50's. Retired/Disabled. Former janitor, radio dj, hospital nursing clerk/telemetry tech, city alderman, mayor (de facto police commissioner), technical support manager/IT Mgr for custom software house. Now...? Allegedly a writer and a sometime blogger. When elected a small town mayor in the late 80's I immediately received a valid death threat; town crazy guy. So...I've been carrying either open or concealed since the late 80's. Have a collection of handguns - all named after women with the exception of 1. Here's the roll call: Beretta Model 71 (Israeli Mossad) - Sasha; Ruger SR22 - Eva; Kel Tec P-11 - Munchkin; Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless - Bonnie; Beretta Model 70 in .380 ACP - Lucrettia; S&W Model 36 Chief's Special - Vicki; Glock First Gen Model 19 - Maria; Charter Arms Bulldog - Odetta; S&W CS45 - Chief's Special - Chief Brenda. My EDC rotates between Sasha, Eva, Maria and Odetta.

Thought it was about time I got a long gun. One of my sons bought me a pre-ban Norinco SKS (spike bayonet) from a pawn shop. Previous owner had put a Weaver/Picatinny dust cover on it and stuck a metal 30 round duckbill in it and tossed the serial numbered 10 round box  >:( . I've restored it to the original 10 round non-detachable. I have no illusions about collectable value, I'm just into aesthetics and having a weapon as it was originally configured and meant to be used unless change is needed; if I'd wanted an AK I'd gone after one.

Field stripped and cleaned her. Her name is Chabi - after Kubla Khan's favorite wife. Haven't found a place to try her out yet. Looking for some kindly farmer in the Center/Northern borderlands of Kansas/Missouri who'll let me give her a test drive.

I came here looking for some answers to questions; answers I have not been able to find elsewhere on the Net and to get practical feedback from real owner/shooters.

Guess that's more than enough.

To all of you have welcomed me - thank you!

I meant to be on sooner (after signing up) but family issues came up that needed tending.

It's been a loooonnnnngggg time since I've actually been on an honest to goodness "board" so please pardon a few stumbles while I get my bearings.  :)

The dry side of Washington - on the east side of the Cascades?  :) I like your avatar icon, Mein Herr! Always helps if someone with a doomsday weapon informs all the other players first.

A bit TMI?  ;) Well...it did dawn on me that posting my lady's names on a rifle site may have been...over enthusiastic. Each name does have a story connected to it, if anyone cares to know.

And I go by Jubal or JJ (I actually answer to most anything  :)  )  Just FYI.

I did not google the "State of Jefferson" because at one time I knew where it was...it'll come to me.  :)  Don't tell me.

As for DJ'ing, I may have a few stories. I've done everything from 70's and 80's album/classic rock to Country & Western to "Golden Oldies" from the 30's. 40's, and 50's, to Christian Contemporary and talk. Only one of those stories involved guns  ;)

Golden Oldies?    You know they was packin.....   8)

Lol! Oh, yeah. Ever hear Ella Fitzgerald's "Stone Cold Dead in the Market"?

She kills her husband but she ain't packin' no gun. Here's the husband's side:

Last night I went out drinking
When I came home, I gave her a beating
So she catch up the rolling pin and went to work on my head
Till she bash it in

And now he's stone cold dead in de market
She didn't kill nobody but her husband

Ouch!

My General Manager's wife hated that song with a passion. Banned it from being played. Off course who's awake after midnight?  ;)  She wasn't.

Welcome from SW Missouri, Jubal! I'm right next to Silver Dollar City, near Branson. Good to see all these fellow Missourians finding the Files! It sounds like you've lead an interesting life, and you're only about half way through!  thumb1  That's what I tell myself, anyway. Some days that works, and others, I feel the "history" creeping into my old bones!  geezer1

Post some pics of that SKS when you get the chance. We always like to see pics!

Kimberling City? Where near Branson if I can be nosy?  :) Spent 12 years in the Joplin area. Through the stations I worked in Joplin, free tickets to SDC were easy to come by. And instead of taking the "boring" way on 44 to Springfield then down I liked to take the more interesting "back way," (I forget the highway but it was at the McDonald County HS off old 71).

And I will get some pics of Chabi (I name all my firearms. I thought Chabi was appropriate for a Chinese rifle!) on as soon as I can get some other stuff out of the way.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hey JJ;

Sounds like we've run down many of the same back roads. I was born and raised in Joplin. My cousin used to live in the house that Bonnie and Clyde had their Joplin shootout and "massacre" in. I think 2-3 LE were killed and more injured in that shootout, before they made their escape. I think they are/were trying to turn that into a tourist attraction now? A Bed and Breakfast type thing.

I'm nearest to Branson West, although I don't live inside any "city limits".  :))  Kimberling City is about 5-6 miles south of us.  I can hear the SDC train whistle across the holler from me, across a small cove of Table Rock Lake. Just an old "Ridge Runner"!  :)

My Great Grandfather was born here in Stone County just after the Civil War when my GGGrandfather, (was with the "bars and stars" fellas), brought the family in from the hills of Tennessee.  My Grandfather was born over in Galena in 1895 and eventually moved over to the Monett, and then, the Joplin area. That's his WW1 Unit Patch that I use as my avatar. He fought in France 1917-1918 with the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) in the "Midwest Division" or, the "Rolling W",(as the patch got it's nickname), which was actually the 89th Division, 342nd. Field Artillery, Battery B. (155mm Howiters). Many stories from that.

We are taking my 81 yo Mother to Kansas City to visit the WW1 National Memorial and Museum on October 22nd. I'm taking Grandpa's Doughboy Helmet, Dog Tags, Barracks Cover, and his "Manual for Privates of the Infantry", dated 1917. I also found a copy of the "History of the 89th Division", dated 1921. I thought the museum might want to record the numbers, maybe take pics for archiving his history. I hope to be able to use the Museums Library to look for Grampas individual service record and Battery B history. Also taking the pics of him in his uniform, too.  My Gramps saw and experienced the horrors of a World War, at the front, and then came home and married my Grandmother. They had my Mother and she had me, all right there in Joplin. So, we've just kinda stomped a circle in these hills for a few years now.

I didn't mean to get started on my history on your Introduction Page! Sorry man! PM me any time and, again, welcome to the board!
