KILLDOZER

I was gonna bump my old thread on this rifle, but a little pop-up warning  seemed to say I should just start a fresh thread. Here's the link to the original thread: http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=1462.msg17340#msg17340
So, moving right along.......

Like LC says, no worries about the pics, but if you do find your bro taking some photos for you, it never hurts to have the left side receiver (with a clear shot of the arsenal stamp and S/N), and then various shots of the major features: stock & rear swivel, stock and rear takedown lever, barrel lug, bayonet lug, trigger group, magazine and follower, RSL (rear sight leaf), and the gas tube/gas block. In the future, if we are trying to tie /0405\ to the supply chain, those will help us to know where it goes.

Visual data is always good!  thumb1

Better late than never, eh ? (but unfortunately it was just too much of a headache to get all the pics asked for, with my slow computer and my even slower computer skills ! But I could still get more if it would be of genuine interest.)

I covered the last two numbers with electrical tape....just cuz.

yes, I just now noticed my rear sight seems to be a little bent.

Threaded barrel on a very late gun....interesting.

KILLDOZER

Really? How so ? What's that mean? Tell me! TELL ME !!!!!  :P

(someone said in the earlier thread that it was a 1980 build. Is that correct, and how did they come up with that date?)

I know short lugs were still standard on 23/24m /26\ guns...  I'm sure the ability to use them at other locations late in the sks building game wouldn't be shocking.

Great looking carbine.....

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Yep...it's just interesting to see the build diversity between arsenals.

Awesome man!  Better late than never.  She's a beauty, a real knockout!

Like LC says, it's not odd to see short lugs that late, but it is interesting.  Likely has some sort of ties with the /26\ supply chain, although the lack of a french tickler means there are certainly not sourcing tge exact same hardware.

The gas tube is a late 2 piece design which you'd expect. The rear sight block is a cast piece that has been final machined to the late RSB style. You can definitely see the casting inclusions that were not quite cleaned up at final machining.  Stock is a bottom swivel; bottom and side seem to have very little rhyme or reason, even changing within the same arsenal in different years.  The front sight is a late version w/o the lightening cuts and with a screw, not a rivet. That part is likely cast and final machined just like the RSB was. I can't make out the gas block, bolt carrier, or rear takedown lever. Photos of the right side would help in IDing some of these.

SN starts with 25 = 25th year of production = 1980

KILLDOZER

Many thanks for all the good info, guys. The trigger housing and guard appears to be machined from a block of steel, I would think that unusual, this being a "late" model. That correct ?  The serial # on the trigger guard matches all other serial #'s.

Loose}{Cannon

Not exactly....  they used old stock and scrubbed parts often.
