Nice...   Added and saved to arsenal /636\B.   thumb1

When rm gets back we will figure out the thumbnail pics.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Ok, finally getting caught back up.

We can do things various ways.

Bulleted list:

  • Barrel Lug: Short
  • Battle Sight on RSL: П
  • Bayonet Type: Spike
  • Bayonet Lug: Late Non-Cutout, Screw style bayonet
  • Bolt Carrier: Late Non-Cutout
  • Gas Tube: 2 Piece
  • Gas Block: Cast?
  • Receiver Cover Takedown: Regular Lever
  • Rear Sight Block: Cast
  • Serial Number Format: 1,7XX,XXX  B
  • S/N Components: Large Font Stock, Last 5 of serial
  • Stock Swivel: Bottom
  • Trigger Group Type: Late Stamped

Maybe a numbered list:

  • Barrel Lug: Short
  • Battle Sight on RSL: П
  • Bayonet Type: Spike
  • Bayonet Lug: Late Non-Cutout, Screw style bayonet
  • Bolt Carrier: Late Non-Cutout
  • Gas Tube: 2 Piece
  • Gas Block: Cast?
  • Receiver Cover Takedown: Regular Lever
  • Rear Sight Block: Cast
  • Serial Number Format: 1,7XX,XXX  B
  • S/N Components: Large Font Stock, Last 5 of serial
  • Stock Swivel: Bottom
  • Trigger Group Type: Late Stamped

For the photos, we can have 100 pixel wide thumbnails all arranged in a row maybe:

Click on one and it will grow to full size within the window, click it again to return to thumbnail size.

We could also do links to photobucket slideshows or we could try some other types of formatting.

I wanted to have all the data in plain text so that it's easy to search for, but now I'm thinking it might be better if it's in a spreadsheet format such as what I do with the Gunbroker listings.  It would be much easier to edit and input data, especially if there are lots of question marks on certain components of certain rare arsenal stamps.

What does everyone think?

Maybe we do a spreadsheet for all /636\ guns known and see if there are any outliers, etc.  Would help to nail the gold standard much more quickly I think because ouitliers would stick out like a sore thumb. We could still have the gold standard data for each nth year prefix in plain text at the top of the post like we were planning and put the raw data in spreadsheet form at the bottom as a reply to the main post?

I too like the thumbnail concept, it works nicely. I would like to know how to do that in future gun porn posts, it is far more tidy it seems.

Regarding the spreadsheet, is there a way to put a sticky within a sticky? It would be nice to get a consensus before having to scroll through individual posts...especially for the smart phone user that might be at a shop buying, and looking out for odd features on something in hand.

It would also be cool if there could be a submission form that keeps posts uniform...but that might be beyond the scope of what Simple Machines is capable of.

Good deal Justin, I'll put up a primer for the thumbnails in the Board Information board.

Getting a consensus on input to the spreadsheet is a tough one.  I'll have to think about that.  I might serve the spreadsheet off Google docs like this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Eq7Z0mPG-FTmc4NHJncEJhdEU/view?usp=sharing

With the real spreadsheet, I'd have to add anyone who wants to contribute to a editors list so they could edit the spreadsheet and enter new information.  The test spreadsheet above is wide open right now.  Chow Yun Fat could edit it if he wants to (which I don't think we want things so wide open that some anonymous troll could wreck the data).

If we want uniform submission, we could always do a mini-survey.  Hmmm  think1

Laugh.  How's this bullet (props to the one who can ID that famous bullet's name):  dance2

Should we be tracking cast/stamped/milled receiver on these?  That's a *really* hard judgment call on some of the cast/milled ones.  Especially the ones that aren't shown out of the stock (like in a GB auction photo)
