This one is obviously a refurb, considering the rear action cover and butt stock having a little square with the diagonal line through it. It is all matching numbers starting with the Cyrillic D C and 4 serial numbers. The butt stock has actually been crossed out a couple times and then forced matched but it also is dated as a Tula 1953. What I am confused about is on the bolt side being the CCCP and then a different serial number. Other than some very minor scratches on the wood, it is in excellent condition and a super mirror shiny bore. Not a bad deal for $500? I would appreciate any and all feedback on helping me to identify this any better than I have here. Thank you.

The CCCP number is the carbine's official import serial number recorded with ATF. CDI chose to assign a new S/N to all Russian SKS's they imported as opposed to CAI who translated the Cyrillic of the original S/N into Roman letters to comply with AtF regs.

$500 is not a bad price for a light refurb Russian Tula these days. The features indicate it is a 1952-1955 made carbine and the S/N font is most certainly Tula and not Izhevsk, but I'd have to check the S/N prefix against the database to get any more refined than that.  My gut says with that leading "Д" it's a '53, but let me check more closely when I get to a computer.

Nice pick up! Worth 500 buck any day. The cover is a later replacement, a '53 would have a Tula star on it. The fonts all look Tula.

True this, I meant to mention the blank cover and forgot about it!

I looked through the database.  Several ДГ prefixed guns from 1950 which we know this one is *not* because of the late round receiver.  There is one unknown/uncategorized carbine in the database with similar characteristics, though this was a SinoBanian import and had a replacement Chinese receiver cover and a birch replacement Albanian stock):

I also found two other examples in the guns I have not yet entered into the database.

#1 with a replacement laminate stock and a '53 cover.  Light refurb:

#2 Again with a replacement stock and a '53 cover.  This time a heavy BBQ refurb.

Based on what I see, I still say it's a '53.  Д is not a common prefix.  There are only 29 in the whole database and all are either 1950 or 1953 produced carbines.  If we had a pristine as-issued '53 with that prefix, we could be 99% certain, but as of right now this still a guess (educated & supported by a bit of evidence, but still a guess).

Beautiful. I have always found the TULA's more desirable to me with that big stamped star regardless if its a Mosin Nagant, a Nagant revolver, etc. I like the stamping on them more when compared to an Izhevsk.
