Has anyone ever seen an SKS-D with a stock cutout like this? Looks to be cutout for a drum mag, but also looks to be either OEM set up or, at the least, very well done. And FYI, the stamp just reads 'SKS   7.62x39mm  88xxxxx'
Just curious as this is for sale locally for $1000 and was wondering about the stock.

My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

I have not.  If done after the fact, that's some nice crafstmanship.  Wonder if they milled it?

That's what I was thinking.

Here's one being done with a chisel. I guess if you have the skill you can do a pretty neat job by hand.

I have one cut out similar to that. My uncle did it in the early 90's to accept a drum mag.

Hey GG!

With those numbers, I'm guessing it's a BETA ARMS SKS-30 import. That I know of, none of the importers, nor the Chinese, did the cut-outs on the stocks for the drum mags. I agree that somebody took their time and skill, put it on a mill, and did the best job of it that I've seen done. I believe it was Midwest Arms? that started that trend way back. Myself, I think I'd have used a standard stock, non-matching to the gun, and saved the original for collector's value. But, as always, just my opinion.  :)
