Was a letter R too.  Only 5 of those have ever been catalogued in the database.  It's going to look great with a weld scar running down the receiver, and likely won't cycle worth a **** anymore either . 

I'm convinced that Reddit is full of idiots who should not own firearms (or really any nice tools in general).

Any welding on the receiver to that extent is going to ruin the temper.  That's why it's not advised to shoot weapons that have been through a fire.  Sad to see that.
