Interesting. Nice range of barrel lengths in Classic’s test.

The testers in the link in this thread removed variables with regard to type of firearm, barrel material, land and groove depth, but they only covered rifle length barrels.

To me is seems basic, the difference is with the gas pressure by type of firearm. Gas impingement vs piston and then short piston vs long piston and also gas port size vs overall gas system length. All of those things are going to create variances in velocity on top of the barrel length itself.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

I doubt gas systems effect the overall end velocity all that much, there's actually probably more difference in between barrels(no two barrels are perfectly identical), ammo deviation and inconsistency(there's always some deviation) to actually get a true hard number. Add in the moment of inertia is different for each weapon, or just when the gas system starts it's function, spring tensions and internal clearances.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem
