Walther P5

This is what the Walther P38, then the P1 evolved into, the P5. Production started in the late 70's, and it is a very common Police pistol in West Germany, as well as a few other users. It's a highly accurate 9mm due to the fact the barrel does not tilt down, but rather moves straight back when fired, so everything stays parallel. It however has one little quirk, the casings eject to the left, not really a big deal, just different.

That's a fascinating piece GM, do you know why they manufactured it to eject to the left? I have never heard of any firearm doing that.

The left hand ejection is a carry over from the P38 and P1. At some point I remember reading the so called reason, most police/military are right handed, so in theory the ejection port would be on the inside of the holster, not facing outward where debris could get in.

Truthfully, its plausible, but that's all I got, good question!!

Very nice P5 - I've always wanted one but in CA it's a bit difficult to import in -


I've a P88 - I like it - But it is a thick gun for my small hands which is why I've always wanted a P5 - Actually the compact version -

I had a P5 for awhile, and it was about as sweet shooting a 9mm as I've seen.  The quality machining of this pistol continues to amaze me.  Not a cheap gun to build, by any means.  A little thicker than I prefer to carry, but a beautiful pistol.

Very nice! Still has the classic Walther aesthetics, before they went to the ergonomic, but less attractive, grips on their more recent offerings.

I picked it up used, 6 years ago at a show, my book says I paid 450..  I just went looking at current auctions for them
