Thinking about getting a 1949 finally. Heavy refurb and the seller wants too much, but the question is whether it is real deal or not. Seems all matching and otherwise no major red flags. What do you think of the stock (refurb but seems legit 49) and the bayo?

Bottom pinned stock ferrule looks like the read deal to me. Can't really see enough detail of the bayo to say anything except it's a spike.  Would need to see the rest of the carbine and maybe do a S/N check vs the database to say with much more certainty.  thumb1

Having some issues with the forum engine here. Gives me errors all the time. Anyhow, the serial is that's a known 49 prefix. The seller wants a bit too much for a bbq refurb but I don;t have one and would like to have one, so let's see if we can work out a deal.

Looks like the issue is related to Russian letters ZH B 275 is the serial

I'm familiar with heavy refurb 1949s. That was the best I could do and I'm happy with it. Same first letter on the letter prefix.

I was looking at the bayonet lug on yours and questioning whether the lugs were horizontal but I'm 99% sure it's just the lack of a perpendicular camera angle.

SMF 2.# seems to have issues with non-ASCII characters: Cyrillic characters, even the apostrophe variations on smart phones, etc. give it trouble. I get errors most frequently when I post from my iPhone.

Thank you! What'd you expect the going rate for 49 bbq's be now? I know not a ton of samples out there, but still...

The seller wants 3.3k for it and not budging.

Do you have photos to compare all the stamped serial numbers to the serial number on the receiver?

The puckered magazine screams replacement  scrub + restamp to match. And though matching, the font likely differs from the receiver. Trigger is also a common replacement part with the upgraded leaf-spring safety updated trigger bar.

I would prefer to have all early parts. But I honestly don't know what the fair price range is.

If I saw this for sale in Canada, I would think that the price is a joke. I have bought several 49's between $900.00 to $2000.00. The $2000.00 being an all matching, non refurb, and the earliest 49 build that I have seen. Remember that prices are in CDN funds, so much less in USA funds($658.00 - $1461.00). If you look at picture #4, the barrel looks like it has pitting and thus rusting. And if looking at picture # 7, the gas tube looks like it has pitting at the gas port. If you decide to buy, I would ask for pictures of the inside of gas tube and barrel. I bet that it would not be pretty.

I'm sorry about the board issues.  I didn't realize people were still having tons of issues.  (and now I'm having issues posting Cyrillic...this is new, it wasn't like this a month or so ago!  Besplode

I'll check into it again and see if I can find a solution.

As for the carbine.  In the database I have:

"Xb"
"XH"
"XY"
and
"XR"

I can reasonably say without much doubt these all are true 1949's.

I actually have the gun you are looking at in my files, looks like I grabbed these pics in June, 2025:

Now what do I see:
The receiver cover has an incorrect 2 lines of font instead of the 1 we should see on *all* original 1949's.  That component is scrubbed and restamped for certain at the very least.  Can't say much about the rest as I don't have a good receiver S/N to compare them with, but th 7's with the serif on the top gives me the heebie jeebies.  Could easily be original, but I don't see that feature on this other "Xb" carbine:

Price is a bit high, but not horrendously out of line with how infrequently these come up for sale.
