Hello from CT, I got a modest SKS collection and was hoping to learn more on the forum.

I also speak Albanian, so I think I'll be useful considering that Albanian SKSs are sought after on here. I also have family members that served in the Albanian military during the Socialist era and I do have a distant relative that actually worked at the factory in either Gramsh or Polican or both I'd have to contact him to confirm.

Welcome, BoB (sorry I had too) from Ohio.

It would be cool if your family members had actual numbers on production of the Albanians. Post some photos of a couple rifles soon.

I'll have to do a bit of digging, I've only met the guy twice but I know he was an engineer at the arms plant during the Socialist era. He did also travel to a couple of other Eastern Bloc countries for further training. Travel was pretty restricted but there were exceptions.

Welcome from SW Missouri, BishopofBling! Great to have you join! It sounds like you'll fit right in.

You obviously have family that speaks Albanian. Did you live there or is your language skill from family immersion? Any inside info on the Albanian SKS production would be very beneficial. Many questions could possibly be answered. Thanks for offering! Let us know if you can submit questions to him or feel free to have your reletive join us if he has the interest and inclination.

Welcome! Your language skills and family connections could certainly be a valuable resource. Thanks for mentioning them. Your relative's recollections would be very interesting.

I have three Albanian SKSs and a number of Type 56s imported from Albania, a couple of which have names carved in the stocks: I. Ferko, and E. Sota.

I was born and raised in the US, my parents are immigrants so I learned English and Albanian at the same time. I also go back frequently enough so my language skills are pretty good although I wouldn't compare myself to a native speaker.

My relative is older so I don't think he's too big into computers. Although, I could start a thread on here with a list of member's questions and get into contact with him and just ask them those questions. I even had a strong interest in translating manuals as I have a few lying around.

Excellent! I saw your thread on gathering questions to ask. I hope your uncle likes to recall his days working in the arsenals. It's first hand information like that that would be ideal in data collection for the Albanian SKS. He may be able to answer some important questions. Who knows, maybe he could contact friends and colleagues from his days there. Great possibilities! Thanks for offering!
