did the albanian stocks use a side swivel , i picked up a stock that was labeled a chinese , but the wood looks a tad grainy to me , its unaltered and shows honest wear so i would expect a triangle cartouche somewhere on it but none

Side sling hanger, dead giveaway for an Albanian is two buttholes in the plate.

so did all albies have doubles or did they use singles , or do you all believe its even a alby stock?

ok , since no opinions , research leads me to believe that it is a chinese sks stock ,not albanian , the albanian is longer , and the bayo relief is shorter because their spike is shorter , only one hole bored into the butt , the price was $85 , from what i understand Alby stocks are more , and it shows no sign of alteration , also the alby stocks used orange shellac that was prone to checkering

If it was an Albanian stock, it would: have two holes in the buttstock, be made from beech wood, have a cut down foreend, have only one pin in the foreend. So, in short, it's a Chinese stock.  thumb1

thank you , so since it has a side swivel it would be a earlier version

just trying to figure if it would be a more correct for my 57 that has a mismatched spiker stock , and if it would be better to switch the stocks

A '57 would be a blade bayonet.

lol , i know it would be , but blade bayo stocks are not exactly readily available , it has a spiker stock on it now with the swivel underneath , i figure if i have to have a mis matched spiker stock , at least a early spiker stock is better than one that is in its final config  , if im not remembering it wrong the side swivel is a transition between blade stocks and spiker stocks with the swivel underneath

A 1957 would be a bottom, er, bottom-mounted, I mean, a bottom-mounted swing...dang it...a bottom-mounted sling swivel.

yes a bottom sling swivel on a "blade" stock , but chronologically in the evolution of the stock ,a side swivel spiker would be closer than a bottom swivel spiker is what i am thinking

Well, yeah, I see what you're saying, a side swivel spike is 7 years off and a bottom swivel spike is 8 years off, but I'm not following why it matters since the bayonet and stock are both incorrect either way  :)

The progression is, in the beginning a blade bayo/bottom swivel, then in 1958 a blade bayo side swivel, then a spike bayonet in mid-1964, then spike bayonet with bottom swivel beginning in 1965.

Not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just saying it's a shooter, so if the stock fits and it shoots, and the looks please you (I think it looks fine), you're good to go  thumb1

Only stupid question is the one not asked so. ask away Hoo.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.
