Beings I'm still "fairly" new here, can anyone point me to a tread or advise to smooth out a trigger group.  I have one of my Chinese SKS's, "late model" in the 22 million serial sequence has a hard and almost grinding/bumping trigger pull.  To put it lightly, it SUCKS!  Is this all in the sear? should I pull apart the trigger group?  Even if its slightly hard pulling, as long as it's smooth pull, I'd be happy.  I haven't shot this on in about a year and I forgot how much a "bear" the trigger was.  I would appreciate any advise.  I never took a trigger group apart.    Thanks, Dave

Short answer is polishing the sear and hammer. Longer answer is you have to be careful of angles and how much you remove. Easy fix is paying $60-ish and sending it to Kivaari (Tom Prince) who is renowned for SKS trigger work.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Mineral spirits, maybe yes.  WD 40,  definitely not!  I can not belive that people are still suggesting to use
WD 40 as a lubricant.  Get it through all of your heads people!  It is not a lubicant, it is a water displacemnet agent!   ;)

yup this , if you ask me WD-40 promotes rust

im telling you , i use and love CLP but for parts that require a lasting lube i use Mobile 1 synthetic bearing grease

WD-40. A subject like Windex  :))

Yes, WD-40 was designed as a water displacing agent. It's primarily hydrogenated mineral spirits and low viscosity oils (petroleum products). Ever spray a bunch into a small container and let it sit for a week? The mineral spirits and other volatiles evaporate but there is a bunch of light weight oil left behind. The rest of the ingredients are a trade secret, but it smells like petroleum because it is primarily composed of petroleum products. Does it promote rust? No. Should it be used as a lubricating protectant for long term storage of steel alloys prone to rust? No, use grease or a higher viscosity oil.

Mineral spirits has no lubrication properties whatsoever. It's just a solvent. Can it be used effectively to soak a part for removal of old oily dirt? Definitely. Will you have to lubricate those parts after soaking? Definitely.

On Tom's website (google Kivaari) he goes into good detail on what to look for in trigger action for a good trigger.

Yeah!  I "completely understand that"!  rofl.  We did several "war games" with the fast attack boats, that was fun.   A quick story on that, that will make you laugh.  I was on a Cutter about 200 miles off shore  of the Carolinas heading to Bermuda once and we got "SLAMMED" with 1 ping!!! Then about 30 seconds later, another.  Nearly everyone on the boat about $H!T their pants, I was in the engine room and of course you know how "loud" that is there when that happens, People started running around crazy saying what the Hell was that, are we gonna die... I was laughing my @$$ off at them and said, we just got Identity and range pinged by a Sub, and if they were gonna kill us, we'd have been dead by now.  The Command knew, " I think" but later to find out it was the USS Los Angeles.  I had heard that ping "MANY" times before but surely didn't expect it on a USCG Cutter!   chuckles1 rofl.  I wish you could have seen the looks on some faces, and I was as cool as could be...

I never did quite understand how anyone could be a bubblehead. I suppose it takes a certain type of personality to spend all that time underwater.
I can say with absolute certainty it ain't me. No green grass, no blue sky...no way. Not this kid.
God bless you for that ability.

Is it true that you guys get steaks every day?
